Classroom learning

The Arts

We have been very busy preparing for the Art Show taking place Term 4. Students in Years Three to Six have had an integrated program where they have been alternating with visual art and performing arts. It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm students have displayed during our performing art lessons. This is in preparation for our auditions in Term 4 for our 2025 School Production.

In Prep we have been working with textiles. Students have created a picture on hessian, using pieces of felt.  We have also been drawing using a variety of materials, such as chalk pastels and oil pastels. During Book week, we will explore the picture story book, One Little Duck, and complete an activity.

In Years One and Two, we have continued using textiles, students have drawn a design and then stitched around the outline. We also used felt to decorate our pictures. Students have explored warm and cool colours and used a variety of lines and patterns to decorate two separate pieces of paper, they will then cut these papers up and create a collage.  Students will also complete an art work with air dry clay, we will combine this with print making.  During Book Week, students will explore the picture story book, The Concrete Garden, and complete an activity.

In Years Three and Four we have continued  with our polymer clay jewellery. Once it was baked and sealed, students added the jewellery accessories. Students have also been working on drawing using a vanishing point to create a 3D image. During Book Week, we will explore the picture story book, Paper Flower Girl, and complete an activity

In Years Five and Six we have been creating vases and urns using plastic bottles as a mould for the paper mache. We will then analyse art works by Indigenous artist, Bayley Mifsud, and create our own pieces inspired by indigenous art symbols. During Book Week, we will explore the book, Timeless, and do an activity.

Physical Education

Across the school, we have worked on the skills involved in basketball. These include dribbling, throwing and catching and shooting. In Years Three to Six, we worked on how to defend and how to attack. We are about to begin sessions on hockey.

The Years Ones and Twos have participated in a five session Water Safety program at Victoria University pool. The Years Three to Six students have had the opportunity to participate in a project on Water Safety, run in conjunction with Life Saving Victoria and Swinburne University. Students used a specially designed app and Virtual Reality goggles as an interactive way to learn about water safety.

This term, 42 students participated in the District Athletics. Estella, Frankie, Thomas, Charuop, Tommy, Enzo and Jobe have all made it through to Division Finals, some of these students in two events.

Some of our Year Five and Six students will compete in a Hoop Time Competition on September 4th and District basketball on September 6th.

Finally, I was lucky enough to receive funding from Sporting School Victoria and the students in Years 3 to 6 will participate in golf lessons from a professional coach. The students are very excited to be learning a new sport.
