Nossal Intermediate Boys / Girls

On the 26th of July, the intermediate girls’ participated in the Southern Metropolitan Regional Play-off Competition at Springvale Sports Centre. The level of competition was very strong; with us versing some of the top teams from other regions such as MacRobertson High School and Narre Warren South.

Our first game was against MacRob followed by a tough defeat for all of us. However, we were able to successfully win against Cranbourne East Secondary College.

Overall, this whole event was a blast and gave us a sense of pride to represent our school at such a high level which would not have been possible without the support of Mr. Armistead and Mr. Sterel and although we may not have won this year, we gained many insights where we can learn and improve our game. Hopefully We all hope to come back even better next year.

Also on the 26th of July, the Nossal

Intermediate Boys badminton team competed.

We played against McKinnon Secondary College and Melbourne High school. The day started off great with a dominant win against McKinnon placing us top of our pool along with Melbourne High School which meant we would have to defeat them to continue.

Unfortunately, they were able to get the better of us in some truly close and competitive games, which meant we were knocked out of the competition. However, we took pride in our wins throughout the day against both schools and were extremely proud to have represented Nossal at the competition.

All things considered the day was excellent, we had a ton of fun playing and were able to experience the high level of play, and most importantly take a day of school! Thank you to Mr. Armistead and the Student teachers who participated on the day as this would not have been possible without them.

SMR Senior Boys and Girls Badminton

The Senior Girls and Senior Boys badminton teams competed at the Southern Metro tournament on July 24th. The games were very competitive, with the Nossal Senior Girls team doing its best to take a match off the usual-state finalists MacRob. All girls played with great spirit and worked well as a team to record many wins against the other schools and gave it their all.

The Nossal Senior Boys team played against McKinnon, Elizabeth Murdoch College and Dromana in their pool matches, making it through to the final to play against the might of Melbourne High School. Nossal made a strong start with wins to captain Chris Go and Jia Yue, with Nossal recording 5 matches to 1 victory over Melbourne High. This means that Nossal will play at the Senior Boys Badminton State Final at MSAC on August 15th.

Thank you very much to Mr. Armistead for his support and coaching before and during the day. Go Nossal!

SMR Table tennis 2024

On Tuesday 30th of July, Nossal’s senior girls table tennis team had the opportunity to participate in the regional table tennis tournament. The tournament had two pools and in our pool were Lakeside College, Elizabeth Murdoch College and Dromana Secondary College, all of which we successfully won against to reach the finals against the winner of the other pool. In the finals, we were up against Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School, which was a very close match-up with both teams having won three of the six games each. At the end, it all came down to the number of sets won and unfortunately, we lost by one set, hence coming second in the region. The quality was amazing and I am very proud of how everyone on the team played.

A big shout out goes to our team captain Caron, who being in Year 12 this year means that she has played her final match for the school. She helped us go to two state finals, placing 3rd overall back in 2022. Thank you so much Caron! A big thank you to Marion, Julie, Husaina and Sathmi for playing their best on the day.  All in all, it was a great day where we were able to play and develop more skills in table tennis and better understand that sometimes you win more from losing than winning. A big special thank you to Mr Armistead for training us for the tournament and supporting us on the day! Hopefully next year we can make it to state again.

On July 30th Nossal's Table Tennis team went to regionals at Greater Dandenong Table Tennis Association. We went up against Dromana first and won all our matches with 4 singles and 2 doubles. Next we kept this streak up, defeating Elizabeth Murdoch College. They had two very good places and it was a hard fought contest overall. We finished off the pool matches with a win over Kambrya College, finishing on top of our pool.

Now it was on to the finals against Melbourne High School. It was a strong start for both schools as we each won 2 of the 4 singles matches, with Nossal leading in sets 9-7. It was also neck and neck in the doubles as we lost one and won one. It was all up to the number of sets won that would decide which school would go through to state. Upon calculations, we had beaten Melbourne High 3 matches all, but by only 1 set (12-11) and are through to state!

Thank you to team captain Leo, Prnav, Karry, Danny and Aakash for a great day. Go Nossal!
