Prep - This week, our Prep students had a wonderful time creating "God's Eyes" using yarn and paddle pop sticks. This craft allowed the students to practise their fine motor skills as they carefully wove colourful yarn around the sticks. The students were not only engaged in a fun activity but also developed their hand-eye coordination and concentration. These beautiful "God's Eyes" were sent home this week, and many students were excited to finish them at home. At the bottom of this page is a video tutorial on how to continue making a God's Eye.
We were so immersed in creating our masterpieces that we didn’t have a chance to take any photos!
Year 1/2 - Our Year 1/2 students have been developing their weaving skills, and this week they took on an exciting new challenge—using yarn with paper plates! After mastering basic paper weaving in weeks 2 and 3, the students were ready to advance to yarn weaving. They began by setting up their plates with a web, and from there, they were fully engaged in the creative process. With each new colour of yarn, their designs became more vibrant and unique. Below is a video tutorial on how to make your own woven paper plate at home.
Year 3 - Our Year 3 students have been diligently mastering the skills of threading a needle, tying knots, and sewing a running stitch using calico. Their hard work is paying off as they continue to refine these essential techniques. During Week 5, students began designing their very own Ugly Doll, inspired by the 2019 movie. With their designs in hand, the next step will be cutting out the individual parts of the toy before bringing it all together with their sewing skills. We can’t wait to see these unique creations come to life!
Year 4 - Our Year 4 students are a few weeks behind the Year 3s due to their work on the Eucharist piece, but they have now started learning the basics of sewing. In the coming weeks, they'll begin working on their own toy projects, applying these new skills. We’re excited to see their creativity take shape!
Year 5/6 -
Our Year 5/6 students have completed their first ceramic pieces, which will soon be going into the kiln. Inspired by the Olympics, the students created unique works of art that they will be able to cherish for years to come. They applied the techniques they’ve been practising over the past few weeks, including slab, pinch pots, and coil. The students crafted a variety of mementos, such as figurines, medals, and even French-inspired food items. We’re looking forward to seeing the final results after they’ve been fired in the kiln.
