Mrs Wallis

This week in STEM, the Foundation students continued to look at materials that things are made of. They thought about their own toys at home and then had a turn at making a toy turtle.

The 1/2 students were once again looking to the stars for signs of what time of year it is. It was great to see the Emu in the Sky display up on the wall, that they made as a level. We have put it up the way the constellation would currently be seen in the sky. Tail in the air and beak pointed down to the horizon. It's the time of year for the emu chicks to start hatching. Over the next few months the Emu will start burrowing "underground" as the Southern Hemisphere is positioned away from that part of the Milky Way.

The Middle and Senior students learnt about measuring the turbidity of water and discussed the pros and cons of having clear or turbid water. They then rated the turbidity of 9 different water samples by looking at how clearly they could see a star under the water samples.
