Devotion

This week in school worship we talked about Solomon, who was the king of Israel for forty years, following the death of his father David. The Bible tells the story of an offer God made Solomon in a dream in the early part of his reign: “Ask for whatever anything you want, and I will give it to you” (1 Kings 3:5).

What an amazing offer! It reminds me of the commercials from the 1990s in which a genie appears out of a lamp and offers an unsuspecting person three wishes. The person thinks long and hard before asking for ‘a packet of Tim Tams that never runs out.' The commercials end with the words, ‘Arnott’s Tim Tams, what more could you want?’

Thankfully, Solomon decided to ask for something else, something that would serve him and his people better than a never-ending packet of Tim Tams! He asked God for wisdom, for the ability to hear the concerns of his people clearly and make good decisions on their behalf. God was pleased with his request and gave him wisdom, as well as riches and respect.

We all need wisdom. We all experience times like Solomon, where a task seems overwhelming or beyond us, and we aren’t sure how to navigate our way through it. God is more ready to help than we realise. In fact, in the New Testament, it says, ‘If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you’ (James 1:5).

We are in the second half of Term 3 - where did the year go? We have lots happening this half. We have Father's Day breakfast on the 30th of August and our school concert coming in Week 9. Check your school calendar and Facebook for further information.

Last week we sent home letters asking about plans for 2025. We need this information to plan our budget and to begin ordering resources for classes next year. Please remember that your enrolment contract states you will give a full terms notice of your intent to leave. We appreciate timely notification so we can provide the best for your children.

Have you heard we have been lucky enough to have a visiting music teacher from Yirara? Miss Eloise conducts a music selective for the Reef students at Yirara on Tuesdays and music sessions for the lower end of the school at Living Waters.

Last week was Science Week and WOW there were some amazing opportunities to explore and investigate. Thanks to Miss Sharreena and Miss H-B for giving up their lunch breaks to run sessions each day.

This week is book week and 'Reading really has been Magic.' Thanks to Mrs Bevan in the Library for all her work to create an amazing display and some awesome lunchtime activities daily. The parade today was magical, and it was great to see everyone dressed up and enjoying the fun.

Last weekend our Early Years team and Mrs Kempson attended a weekend PD on play. The ladies enjoyed the session, and we look forward to seeing what they learned in action in the classroom.

Finally, plans are locked in and the last of the bookings have been made for our Reef Alice and Canberra camps. Thanks again to our staff for going above and beyond for our students.

Blessings,

Mrs Lisa Goldsworthy
