Term 3, Week 7

Numeracy - Money Money Money

We've had so much fun using play money to learn all about Financial Mathematics. We've had opportunities to practice counting collections of money and learn about effective strategies that help us to count money efficiently. We've learnt to represent money values in multiple ways and count the change required for simple transactions to the nearest five cents. The students especially loved our Let's Go Shopping activity where they needed to visit the banker to withdraw the correct money and go and make purchases at our shops (which can be seen below). They loved it so much that we played it twice, the second time the shopkeepers had to give change for all purchases! It has been a really fun unit so far!

Inquiry - Vision Australia Incursion

In the coming weeks, we are hoping to have a very special incursion. The team from Vision Australia are going to come and run some activities with both Grade 3/4 classes and talk about their role in providing assistance to those people who have a vision impairment. As part of the presentation, the students will be able to take part in some hands on activities including using Braille books. This is all part of our Inquiry unit for Term 3 called 'In Someone Else's Shoes', in which we have been exploring the importance of accessibility and fairness in social justice.

Book and Science Week (Learning is Magic)

Just a reminder that we will be jointly celebrating Book Week AND Science Week in Week 9 this Term. The theme this year is Learning is Magic. The students will have the opportunity to visit our Book Fair, create a potential wish list of books and make some purchases. They will also participate in multi-age activities celebrating some of the amazing Book Week titles and dress up for our annual Book Week parade. As if that wasn't enough fun for one week, Grade 3/4 students will also be participating in some amazing hands on science activities. It promises to be a great week with lots of fun and learning. Please keep an eye out in the newsletter and on Audiri for further information, dates and times of when things are happening across the week.
