Dear MPS Community

Our Murrumbeena Primary School Community spirit was highly evident at Saturday’s carnival as children and adults alike enjoyed the festive atmosphere and the company of others.

Our carnival was a highlight of the social calendar, and we couldn’t have been more blessed with the weather.

When it comes to running a carnival, there’s truth in the saying, ‘many hands make light work.’

But all events need someone to take the lead and our school was incredibly fortunate to have wonderful parents (school council members) bring the carnival vision into a reality.

On behalf of our school community, I’d like to thank Vanessa Lee and David Funston for their outstanding leadership and ability to put together an incredible carnival committee with the dedicated and continuous support of fellow school council member Deborah Nhuch.

Each member of the carnival committee brought practical ideas and expertise to the group, and they sure knew how to have a good time while working together. I thoroughly enjoyed attending carnival meetings as there were always plenty of laughs.

A Huge thank you to the Carnival Working Group:

An effective strategy introduced this year was to have a working party made up of one parent from each year level. They attended the working party meetings and coordinated and communicated carnival activities and year level stall responsibilities to their fellow parents and carers. A big thank you and acknowledgement to the following year level leaders for their active contributions on the committee and to all the parents who volunteered on the following stalls:

Prep: Annie McDermott (Pirate Dig and Devonshire Tea)

Year 1: Annie Liddell (Bar, cakes, lollies & preserves)

Year 2: Farah Zebian (Trash N Treasure)

Year 3: Celeste Benetti and Jonathan Doncovio (plant stall and lob-a-choc)

Year 4: Sandra Field (hot chips, fairy floss, ice creams,pizza)

Year 5: Adele Lee-Wriede (face painting, henna and arts/ crafts)

Year 6: Georga Hage (win a wine and BBQ)

The carnival is an event run by the School Council and parents. Without the support of parents and carers to take the lead in organising and volunteering to run stalls, and so on, the carnival would not be possible. To every person who volunteered in some way either leading up to the carnival or on the day itself, our school would like to thank you.

BOOK WEEK THEME ‘Reading is Magic’

This week is book week and the students enjoyed a visit from award winning novelist and educator Ingrid Laguna. The students were enthralled hearing of her journey into writing and incorporating relevant themes into her children’s books.

What a beautiful day today was for the Book Parade and this year we did things a little differently.

The year levels met in groups on the asphalt and had their own mini parade where the group selected their favourite Book Paraded costumes. These finalists paraded for the whole school when they came together at 9:15am.

Our students enjoyed the opportunity to really admire the creative costumes throughout the parades.
