Grade 3 and 4
What's Happening
We are edging closer to the end of winter and term 3! We have had a lot of exciting events over the last 3 weeks with athletics, book week and pyjama day! The last few weeks have been both exciting and busy with our students exploring information reports, poetry, fractions and decimals along with working both independently and collaboratively through exciting activities.
Athletics Day
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden
The Kitchen Garden has been a hive of activity with many plants changing, budding and growing as we see the seasons changing and an usually warmer spell of weather. Our 3/4 students have enjoyed exploring, tending and maintaining our garden areas and getting their hands dirty with weeding and harvesting.
We have made some delicious recipes including Torres Strait Island Fried Scones which were a very popular dish to accompany a delicious barley and mandarin salad. Our students are developing some fantastic food preparation skills along with learning real world maths especially linked to our fractions unit.
Thank you to all of our kitchen and garden volunteers; we could not run such an amazing program and experience for our 3/4 students without your time and support. We encourage anyone who is interested in helping out to register.
CBL
In CBL we are exploring 'Respect' - where our students have been learning about 'respect for others' and shifting mindsets from a 'scarcity' mindset to an 'abundance' mindset supporting our individual capacity to support ourselves and in turn others. Students have worked both independently and collaboratively exploring what respect means to them and
Book Week
During Book Week, the 3/4 students were lucky to attend a wonderful session with children’s book author, Cassy Polimeni. It was fantastic to hear all how Cassy become a published author and her earlier experiences during school that lead her in that direction; very inspirational for many of our budding authors! Cassy has written two books called 'The Garden At The End Of The World' and 'Ella's Amazing Frog Orchestra.' What a brilliant experience for all of our students. Tara West our frog loving student led the 'frog orchestra' during this fun and interactive workshop, so much fun!
