CSPS Athletics Carnival

John Wink

Approximately 300 Year 3-6 CSPS students competed at the House Athletics Carnival on Thursday the 15th of August at Duncan McKinnon Athletics Track. The students are to be congratulated on their excellent behaviour and participation. A huge thank you to our wonderful CSPS staff for your efforts in making the carnival run so smoothly. Also, a huge thank you to those parents who volunteered their time to assist on the day.

Parents of students that have qualified for the Caulfield & District Athletics Carnival have been sent information via Compass.

Quotes from the track

“Athletics day was so much fun from running, jumping and throwing. It was awesome! My favourite was the jumping events.” Danielle W (Year 5)

“When we got there it took me a minute to remember how big Duncan McKinnon was. I was 90% sure that I wasn’t going to get a ribbon for anything and if I did, I thought it would be for hurdles, but it was for the shotput and relay.” Kai S (Year 5)

“The first activity I did I had butterflies in my stomach but that didn’t stop my goal to get a ribbon. I tried my hardest and cheered on my friends and house as much as my voice could go. Even though I didn’t get a ribbon I was very proud of my friends who did.” Asher R (Year 5)

“Athletics day was a blast with so many events and good sportsmanship. My favourite event was the 800m because I came fourth and the house chants were amazing.” Sammy (Year 4)

“Athletics day was really fun. We did running, hurdles and so much more. It was so fun I smiled the whole day. I also liked watching the others.” Asher D (Year 3)

“Athletics day was really fun! We got to do lots of really fun activities like long jump and best of all…. Some people in my class got ribbons.” Harry C (Year 3)

“It was so fun! There was so many events and I loved them all, but my favourite was the hurdles, long jump, 100m and 800m. I can’t wait for this year’s Year 2’s to see how fun it is!” Octavia M (Year 3)

“I enjoyed athletics because we had so many events that everyone enjoyed. It was nice working as a team with my house. I loved when we sang our chants. It was amazing!” Mika B (Year 4)

“Athletics is one of my favourite days of the year. There’s running, jumping and throwing. My favourite event is the 100m because it is quick and easy, and I specialize in running.” Baily S (Year 5)

“My favourite part of athletics day was getting a first place in long jump and finding out I’m going to the district carnival. I loved cheering on my friends when they ran the 800m.” Riley Z (Year 5)

“At the athletics carnival I really liked the hurdles. It was really fun because we could compare it to the Olympians. Great day overall, had lots of fun!” Rafi K (Year 5)

“I had a great day. Our teachers all did a wonderful job and I saw lots of students doing their best and supporting each other to do their best.” Mr Wink

Paralympics 2024

Some staff, parents and students may remember Joanne Twomey who worked at CSPS for many years.

Please see below a brief excerpt from her son Liam who is competing at the Paralympics on Sunday.

I am writing, slightly belatedly to announce that after nearly a decade of setting my sights on competing at the Paralympic Games, I’ve been successful this year in my qualification and selection on the Australian Paralympic team for Triathlon in Paris this year!
I will be competing in the Men’s PTS4 classification in Paris on Sunday the 1st of September at 10:15AM CET / 6:15PM AEST on Channel 9. Hope to hear your cheers through the TV!
I’m over the moon to have achieved this goal and I know that everyone who has met me through this chase has understood how much I wanted this but to also get to the Games in a position to push myself to see what I can achieve on the day.

We at CSPS wish Liam all the best for Sunday and yes, we will be cheering through the TV! Go Liam!!!

And yes, what a proud Mum moment for Joanne! We will be thinking of you!
