Wednesday the 8th of August is the Feast Day of our Australian Saint, Saint Mary MacKillop. Throughout our RE lessons, we have been learning all about her life, her achievements and how she helped those in need.
5/6M created a video for their assembly, teaching our school all about Saint Mary MacKillop.
Our focus this term has been on recount writing. We have been looking at the role of adverbial phrases within our writing and looking at the different types of sentences structures.
We have been exploring early Australian explorers and putting ourselves into the shoes of the explores. The feelings and emotions they would have experienced as well as the sights, smells and sounds.
Have a read through of some of our initial recounts.
We have been learning about additive thinking, such as finding the total and difference of numbers. We have improving these skills by exploring worded problems and breaking these down worded problems into four clear steps.
On the 23rd of June, Christine Buhler - Numeracy Specialist, worked with selected 5/6 students to explore a mathematical investigation.
Mathemagicians - Year 3-6 students. Held Wednesday 23rd June
You have been awarded some land, council approval and a $5 million budget to build a theme park in Euroa! Imagine the excitement and ideas that flew about when the Mathemagicians were given this brief! The students surveyed all classes to find out what features, food and amenities would be popular. The resources provided included information regarding the costs for the rides, attractions, food and amenities. The square meterage for each element also had to be calculated, and all ground not covered needed to be paved. Some students worked on the design plans and others worked on maps showing their theme park.

Working on gratitude helps us to be thankful and appreciate what we have in our lives, rather than focusing on what we don’t have or what we want. When we practise being grateful, we start to scan the world to look for positives – this only takes 21 days! Practising gratitude every day increases our levels of energy, and helps us to feel happier and more focused, determined and optimistic. It even helps us have better sleep, lowers levels of anxiety and depression and we are less likely to get sick. So many benefits – let’s all try to be grateful for the things and people in our lives every day!
Tash and Clare joined us from ASPA Education to guide and teach us our songs for the upcoming performance in Shepparton later in the term. We have been practising for our performance on three various songs.
Each fortnight we are lucky enough to have Amalie here to take our students for team building, communication skills, core strength and self umpiring. The students are fully engaged during their time and look forward this each fortnight. Check out our recent photos below, including a special session with the Foundation students.
Our 5/6 girls soccer teamed travelled up to Wangaratta last Wednesday to compete against Bright. The confidence was high, with a number of our Year 6 students reaching the State competition in 2023. With coaches Isobel Smyth and Macey Watson at the helm, the team was ready and raring to go at the first whistle.
Piper Clarke, Lillian Halsall, Grace O'Dea, Matilda Eddy, Evie McMartin and Elisabeth McCullagh were a brick wall in defence, blocking opposing shots and clearing the ball from the defensive half. The midfielders in Lucy Bickerton, Amelia Gillespie, Sophie Lamont and Paige Enright worked hard all across the field, pressing up onto the Bright players and making it difficult for them to make easy passes. Remy Simmons worked hard all across the pitch, providing guidance for our younger players on where to run and defend, while Charlotte Divers and Ruby Preston were causing a lot of headaches for the Bright defence.
At half time, the team regrouped and refuelled. With lollies, oranges, chips, Doritos, slices and biscuits all being shared amongst the group. Coach Watson and Smyth reminded their players that playing with a full belly may not be a great choice. However, they were wrong. Charlotte saw an opportunity to take control. With power and accuracy, she scored the maiden goal of the match.
The girls maintained the pressure and were unlucky not to score again. At the 60 minute mark, the umpires whistle was blown and the match was ended, 1-0. The girls were ecstatic to be off to State for another year, with all their hard work at recess, lunch and their own soccer training paying off.
Well done girls, we wish you all the best!
We would love students/parents/grandparents to be a part of our cake making team. Every assembly, we draw a raffle for a cake/slice/biscuits and children love being a part of the
competition. If you would be interested in contributing, could you please send us an email and we can add you to a roster.
Just a reminder about our school uniform policy.
If this is unable to be achieved on a particular day, please write a note or email to your child's classroom teacher.
