From the
Leader of Year 11 Wellbeing
Mr Peter Robertson
The Year 11 Parent/Teacher Interviews were held last Tuesday, 4 June and many productive conversations occurred with subject teachers around academic progress, work ethic, study habits and future goals.
The Term 2 Assessment Block is coming up towards the end of this term and task notifications have gone out for most subjects. Some of these tasks are exams whilst others are hand-in projects. For example, in my subject English, students need to produce a Multimodal Presentation demonstrating their understanding of ‘Sherlock‘ (Standard) and ‘The Great Gatsby‘ (Advanced). This is due in Week 10.
In order to improve on (or maintain) their Term 1 results, students need to be organised and apply themselves with due diligence and sustained effort. After this term, there is only three months to go before the HSC course begins. Therefore, the conversations that occurred with teachers about home study are vitally important in terms of achieving personal best academic standards. Senior schooling is not just about completing your homework. It is about having a plan.
Congratulations to E Webster, H Payne, N Cantlon, O Hayllar, A Dann, G Dummett, E Regis, T Gliatis, H McDonnell, W Crowe, Z Penrose and S Barnes.
Congratulations to these young people on the consistency and excellence of academic results across their courses so far this year.
On Friday, 31 May, all of Year 11 attended the Careers Expo at Randwick Racecourse. This was a great opportunity to get some information about possible or desired post-school options or to start thinking about where the next stage of the journey may take each individual. It is not just about university; other possibilities include TAFE, training colleges, full-time work, a gap year, apprenticeships, American summer school camps (as a student mentor), the list is endless.
Mrs Kennedy continues to have many meetings with Year 11 students about their pathways and I encourage others who are uncertain about their future to make an appointment before the end of Term 3 to discuss options and look at ways of potentially reaching goals.
I will be closely monitoring the progress of each Year 11 student and look forward to future successes. As always, if you have any issues or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
