NSW CIS Cross Country

On 6 June, five students from our Junior School competed at the NSW CIS Cross Country Championships held at the International Equestrian Centre in Horsley Park. In very wet and muddy conditions, the girls performed with grit and determination, to produce outstanding results.

Well done to our 12-year-old team of Olivia Boulton, Zara Boulton, Sara Pan and Erykah Skimin who finished 1st in their teams' event on the day.

Congratulations to Alexia Coburn (4th in 11 years) and Olivia Boulton (2nd in 12 years) who now progress to the NSW PSSA Championships held on the 23 July. We wish them the best of luck!

Our Senior School contingent all performed well at CIS. 12-year-old Aria Calabro was the first to compete, finishing 8th in the 12 years and gaining selection in the NSWCIS team to compete at NSW All Schools. In the 14 years Talia Gamerov 28th and Elizabeth Somerville 35th are better known as 400m sprinters so they performed well in a large field of runners. Sadly, for Claudia McKee who has been training exceptionally well, injury struck at the start of the race which impeded her performance. Year 12 Gabriella Gamerov has been running regularly to take a break when she is studying and in her first IGSA representative team finished 8th in the 6km race to qualify for the NSWCIS team for State. Gabriella is a fine example of how important it is for girls to continue to exercise and play sport while studying for the HSC.

Year 4 Touch Clinic

The Year 4 Touch players were excited to get started on learning skills on Saturday. Despite the weather being unfavourable the girls learned correct passing technique, how to ‘dump’ the ball and how to make a touch on the opposition. The coaching team led by Head Coaches Brandon MacDonald and Paul Robinson ensured the girls had fun while learning the basics of Touch. We look forward to seeing the girls back for more Touch next Saturday.

Congratulations to Brandon and Josh Phillips who have been selected to play for Australia in the World Cup to be held in England in July. They will attend an Australian camp in Qld this weekend.

Basketball Team of the Week

Kambala 2 Basketball played Meriden at Sydney University with the first half being a close tussle with Kambala 2 just leading 16-10 at half time. The second half saw the team come out firing and they hardly missed a shot in the second half to win 58-18. The team pictured below has team members from Years 10 - 12 and I was impressed with their support of each other and teamwork.

Olympic Trials Update

Frankie Somerville took on the best swimmers in Australia in her heat of the 50m Freestyle at the Olympic Trials. She competed against Olympians Bronte Campbell and Shayna Jack and used this to swim to post an impressive 25.98 to finish 20th overall out of a field of 90 athletes. Frankie will learn from this experience competing against the best Freestylers in the world and I am sure we will hear more fantastic results from her in the future!
