In a recent article for TES Magazine, our Head of History, Philosophy and Religious Education David van Tol provided a thoughtful analysis of the proposed curriculum reforms in New South Wales. Mr van Tol’s piece exemplifies the passion and thought leadership of our teachers here at Kambala. I highly recommend reading his contribution here. Congratulations Mr van Tol!
Best wishes to Lauren Walsh (Head of Curriculum Innovations & English Teacher) who will present her findings from an 18-month action research project at the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools Conference, in Philadelphia USA. Lauren’s project, as part of the Global Action Research Collaborative (GARC), investigates the extent that collaborative approaches to writing builds confidence and connection in the English classroom. Director of Curriculum Junior School, Ky-Lee Murphy, will also attend the conference and undertake a series of workshops to further her own research on the use of vertical whiteboards in terms of impact on students’ courage, curiosity and collaboration in Mathematics.
We also wish eight of our teachers across Junior and Senior Schools all the best for their travel to Harvard University during the school holiday period. These teachers have been awarded our KITE scholarship to attend Project Zero Classroom, a week-long learning institute that features Harvard University’s renowned researchers and theorists.
This scholarship follows our recent visit from Professor Ron Ritchhart, who continued his work with our staff on the mid-term 2 staff professional development day. As teachers we cherish opportunities to learn, and it has certainly been a busy and exciting term of professional learning for our teachers at Kambala!
