NEW - Fortnight in Foundation

It has been a cold two weeks with the Winter weather finally upon us. There are a lot of colds and coughs around and we are encouraging children to leave on their jumpers. Some coats, jumpers and beanies are not named and this makes it hard to return it to the correct owner. Please make sure your child’s belongings are clearly labeled.

Foundation has continued their learning about Animals Everywhere and have created a habitat for an animal. Their dioramas and information reports will be available for families to view tomorrow, Thursday 20th June, from 3pm in their classrooms.

During this fortnight we had the opportunity to learn more about ‘Native Australian Animals’ with Fiona and ‘Insects and Bugs’ with John from GM Landcare when they visited the Foundation classes. They shared facts, where the creatures could be found and how important it is not to go and pick up any animals you don’t know about, big or small, from the environment. There was a lot of excitement and some of us, including the teachers, kept our distance.

Children have also enjoyed using the reading PM app during class and we encourage that they continue to use this at home during the week and on the holidays to continue their reading.

Over the holidays, it would benefit our children to participate in family fun activities that will continue to promote learning for example board games, reading books, imaginative play including shops and schools and writing shopping lists.

Our next newsletter will not be before the holidays, therefore we wish you a happy and restful break as a family.

NEW - Sacred Heart Feast Day

On Friday the 8th of June, our school Feast Day occurred.  As part of the celebrations, students participated in some fun physical activities in our House Groups.  One of the activities after the Mass was the egg and spoon race. Many people dropped their eggs as soon as they started! It was challenging for some of the preps but they got through it!

Another activity was sack races, where the goal was to get to the end and back without falling over in a sack. This was similar to the 3-legged race, where students chose a friend and tied their ankles together before running towards the finish line.  Thankfully, there were no injuries reported (that we heard of).

We also got to play with the parachute by holding it and raising the parachute up and down while running underneath it.

It was a really fun day for most people!

NEW - Music

Foundations are continuing to learn about beat and rhythm. They have also been enjoying listening, moving to and talking about music from The Carnival of the Animals.

Grade 1/2 have been learning to sing in unison and in parts.  They are becoming familiar with the musical alphabet as they learn to play the Chime Bells.

Grade 3/4 and 5/6 have also been singing in unison and parts. They absolutely love performing their dance routine to ‘Take You to Rio’ and playing on the xylophones.
