John XXIII Rowing Club

Dear Families

Congratulations to our girls' rowing squad for their outstanding performance at the Head of the River 2024, hosted by Perth College at Champion Lakes Regatta Centre. Across 15 entries, our talented rowers secured four podium finishes, including an impressive three wins. Notably, Lily Lucas triumphed in the Junior A Scull, and Cam Barbi won the Junior B Scull, with both scullers coached by Jasmin Collins and Samuel Sivwright. Our Freshman A Quad, comprising Rosabelle Taylor, Madison Zappara, Zoe Dickson, Damarys Thepenier, and Eliza Brown (cox), clinched their victory under the guidance of Jemima Broderick and Cassie Tonkin. This historic day marked a milestone for our Rowing Club, with John XXIII College recording its second-best score at a regatta with 118 points and a College-best season total of 466 points, surpassing the previous best of 383 points set in 2023. Special mention to our senior girls, whose commitment and hard work have resulted in John XXIII College having a 1st VIII race in the Head of the River for the first time in 21 years.

Next term, our focus shifts to the final regattas, including the highly anticipated All Schools State Championships. In addition, our Years 8/9 rowing program kicks off in Week 5, offering a fantastic introduction to competitive rowing. All students registered in this program will have the opportunity to participate in the House Regatta at Canning Bridge on 7 September and will be invited to the Rowing Presentation Night. We wish everyone a safe and restful holiday. For those keen to stay active, optional holiday training sessions will be available over the next two weeks. If you haven’t already RSVP'd, please do so using the link below.
