Principal's Report

Mrs Larissa Vesdrevanis

As we bring Term 2 to a close, I would like to express my gratitude to our students, teachers, parents, and guardians for their dedication to learning this semester. Our students have actively participated in a variety of engaging learning opportunities aimed at fostering continuous growth and building knowledge. It has been a great term of teaching and learning!

This past week, I had the opportunity to speak with a number of students in Grades 5/6 about the World Expo, and I was thrilled to hear how enthusiastically and articulately the students shared their newfound knowledge. I must say, I learned a few new facts about some of the countries. I also had the opportunity to learn about 3/4 students' animal enrichment design projects. I was impressed with their innovative design ideas and critical thinking.

The midyear student reports, and parent-teacher interviews held last week provided valuable insights for parents into their child's learning strengths and areas for further development. It is our hope that families will continue to collaborate with us to support their child's educational journey.

A special thank you goes out to our School Council, Parent Association, and Parent Helpers for their unwavering commitment to our school from reading with students, helping in the Canteen, organising Mother’s Day Stall to our school councillors who dedicate their time to work with us in providing the best resources and education for our students. Your support has been instrumental in making this past half-year a resounding success for our wonderful school community.

I wish you all a well-deserved break during the upcoming school holidays. Remember to never stop learning new things through experiences and time spent together with family and friends over the holiday period. Thank you once again for your ongoing support and dedication. I look forward to seeing you all in Term 3

Ninja Playground

The launch of the Ninja playground was a huge success this past week. The students have had a wonderful time exploring the playground and testing their strength and agility. Our younger students have been experimenting with creative ways to use parts of playground that are hard to reach. For example, crawling or climbing over equipment, doing pushups on the hurdles and simple manoeuvring around poles.  We are looking forward to the children using the playground every day in Term 3.

Thank you to all our DPS families and friends for you fundraising contributions over the years that has allowed this to happen.

Past Families

In May we had some unexpected visitors to the school - the Gould family. Anthony, Joanne and David Gould all attended Donvale Primary School from 1970 - 1980.

The Gould's reminisced about their time here, saying that the buildings all looked the same (not the BER) and it still had the same school smell! The office entrance was in the middle of the main building (where After School Care is now) and the music rooms were the shelter sheds. They all recalled running around the pine trees, which were only a few metres high when they were kids and were astonished to see how much they had matured and grown. They all spoke about a love of learning (in different areas) and how the teachers and staff at Donvale supported them in those early years of their education.

It was a pleasure having them visit us and share their fond memories of Donvale Primary School.
