Foundation

In recent weeks, our Foundation students have been actively working on their running, jumping, and dodging skills with a focus on balance. They have engaged in various activities that teach them how to move their arms, lift their knees, and look forward while running. They've also learned to jump higher by swinging their arms and bending their knees, as well as how to change direction swiftly during different games.

These activities have also provided valuable opportunities for the students to practice teamwork skills. Working in small groups, they have learned to wait for their turn and share equipment.

Games such as scarecrow tiggy and sack relay races have been particularly beneficial, helping the students become familiar with the events of the upcoming Athletics Carnival next term. We are proud of their progress and excited to see them apply these skills in the Carnival!

Year 1 and 2

Over the past weeks, Year 1 and 2 students have been busy mastering various basketball skills, including dribbling, chest passing, and shooting. This five-week program, provided by the Darebin Giants club, has been invaluable in helping our students develop their abilities. We greatly appreciate the Darebin Giants for their time and dedication in expanding our students' opportunities to practice basketball and related sports.

Following this program, students have been practicing throwing and catching balls of different sizes, learning to position their hands appropriately depending on the ball size. We've also introduced group games to foster teamwork and cooperation.

As we look ahead to the beginning of next term, we will start practicing some of the exciting games and activities, such as sack races and egg-and-spoon races, in preparation for our Athletics Carnival. Our students are eagerly anticipating this event and are well on their way to being ready for the big day!

Year 3 and 4

In recent weeks, our Year 3 and 4 students have been improving their dribbling skills using balls of various sizes, including handballs and basketballs. They have learned how to dribble with rhythm, making the contact between ball and hand more predictable, allowing them to focus their attention away from the ball.

This week, we have started preparations for the Athletics Carnival which will take place at the beginning of next term. During PE lessons, students will be introduced to different techniques for performing shot put and discus. We will begin with lighter objects and gradually progress to heavier ones, emphasizing the importance of proper technique to ensure safety and effectiveness.

On rainy days, students have been engaged in designing safety rules for different areas of the school, including the playground, the new gymnasium, and the bottom oval. We will continue working on this project during our health lessons, aiming to complete it by the end of next term.

Year 5 and 6

Over the past weeks, our Year 5 and 6 students have been diligently preparing for our upcoming Athletics Carnival. They have focused on improving their shot put, discus, and long jump techniques by using peer feedback.

Working in teams, students have rotated through different roles, including recorder, safety person, performer, and measurer. Each role is crucial for the group's overall effectiveness. The recorder ensures accurate documentation of performance, the safety person ensures everyone's well-being, the performer focuses on executing the technique, and the measurer ensures precise measurement of results. This rotation helps students understand the value of each role and fosters teamwork, cooperation, and mutual respect.

We are excited to see our students apply their improved skills and teamwork at the Athletics Carnival!
