Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal

A big THANK YOU to the Mini Vinnies students at both St Joseph’s and St Columbkille’s for organising the Winter Appeal to support the work of our Corrimal Conference of the St Vincent de Paul Society. I would also like to thank the parents and teachers for your generosity and support. We were overwhelmed.

We received over $1500 worth of non-perishable food which will assist in supplying much needed necessities to families finding the cost of living difficult to manage. At the moment we are finding many individuals and families needing food until their next payday.

It is most encouraging to our conference members to see so many students involved in Mini Vinnies, learning about the conditions under which some people live and appreciating how we can give people a “hand up” rather than just a “hand out”.

Well done girls and boys. We hope to see some of you in our conference in years to come.

Year 4 students will sit the Religious Literacy Assessment (RLA) on Monday 5 August during class time. This assessment is a means of celebrating and sharing the good news about students' learning in Religious Education and enables teachers to use the data to inform teaching and learning.

Mrs Duffin and the Year 6 students and teachers will join with other students across the Diocese to celebrate ‘Mass with Bishop Brian’ next term (Week 3) on Wednesday 7 August at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Unanderra. St Mary of the Cross MacKillop - Feast Day

On 8 August 2024, we celebrate the feast day of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Mary MacKillop was born in Melbourne in 1842 and died in Sydney on 8 August 1909.  She took the religious name Mary of the Cross and since her canonisation she is known as St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

Mary saw the needs of poor children living in remote areas of Australia and founded the Sisters of St Joseph in 1866 to provide education for these children. She and the Sisters shared the life of the poor, offering special care to women and children in great need.  She is remembered for her eagerness to discover God's will in all things, for her charity, care and compassion for others, and for her trust in God.

Fr Patrick has invited the school community to celebrate this significant event with a Mass in the Church at 9:30am on Thursday 8 August. All are most welcome to attend.

We are all challenged to be more like Mary each day by:

Never seeing a need without doing something about it”.
