Setting the Tone for Semester 2

The mid-year holiday break is a time for relaxation after the busy term that was Term 2. It was a time when we all took a break from our everyday routines and spent quality time with family and friends. However, as the new semester dawns, it is time return to the familiar classes of education. Over the coming few days and week ahead, I will have an opportunity to remind our Middle School students of the below, however it is timely that you reinforce these points with your sons also:

Reflect on your achievements

As your sons prepare to return to school, take a moment to sit with them and reflect on the accomplishments from Semester 1. Think about the feedback from the Parent/Teacher Interviews, assessments completed, the new skills acquired, and the challenges overcome. This reflection can boost confidence and preparedness for Semester Two.

Refocus on your Goals

Setting goals is a crucial part of a successful return to school and your sons will have an opportunity to reflect and adapt the goals that they selected at the beginning of the year. Whether it’s improving marks, becoming more organised, or participating in co-curricular activities, clearly defined goals will provide a sense of purpose and direction.

Get Organised

Returning to school after the holidays is an excellent opportunity to get organised. Review your son’s school supplies, textbooks, and notes. Make a list of what they need and create a plan to keep everything in order throughout the term. Staying organised and having a clear timetable of all the important events (some of these early in term listed below and more information to follow from relevant staff) can help reduce stress and increase their chances of success. Please support them with this.

Re-establish a Routine

During the holidays, the daily routine may have become more relaxed as I wrote in the final edition of the Especean last term. It is essential to re-establish a schooling schedule that includes time for homework, studying and demands of commitments outside school.

Reach out to Peers

One of the joys of returning to school is reuniting with friends. It is a time to reconnect with their peers and share their holiday experiences. Supportive friendships can make the transition back to school more enjoyable and can help to sharpen the focus on schooling via an emphasis on wellbeing.

With the right mindset and a commitment to education and their own wellbeing, the new term holds the promise of new opportunities and growth for your sons. Welcome back to Term 3, and here’s to a successful and fulfilling term ahead.
