Co-curricular - Senior Sport

Welcome to Term 3!

A huge congratulations to Mitchell Woods who made the Australian Schoolboys Rugby League team. Well done Mitchell!

A reminder that we return to Winter sports this weekend and that it is the responsibility of all boys to be aware of where their team is playing and at what time, please pay close attention to the SPC App to stay up to date with any last- minute changes.

A further reminder to all boys that when attending any fixture, whether playing or supporting, you are to be in the College Supporters’ attire including the College tracksuit if it is cold.

Best of luck to all SPC teams for the remainder of the season.

A message from the Head of Rugby:

Holiday Training and Fixture vs St Aloysius:

A huge thank you to the boys and coaches of the First and Second XV who attended the rugby training days during the school holidays. It was a great few days of skill development, education, and fitness to sharpen their skills and test them physically and mentally while enjoying the holiday break.

We were lucky enough to have Jack Debreczeni, a current player for the ACT Brumbies, (who also played for the Waikato Chiefs and Melbourne Rebels, along with many other top clubs around the world), attend and coach the squad throughout the session. He spent time with the backs running them through drills and scenarios specific to their positions while also sharing valuable lessons and learnings that will go a long way to players’ development and translate to their performances.

Our squad travelled to St Aloysius to play 3 x 30minute thirds in an opportunity to for both sides to prepare for the return to their respective seasons and for individuals to really stake a claim for their positions in teams. Our boys played strongly, winning all three thirds, and playing some exciting rugby and scoring some fantastic tries.

Some outstanding performances from Aiden Kipreotis who carried strongly and tackled everything that moved, James Kelly was in a barnstorming mood continuously carrying opposition players on his back while working his way over the advantage line, Xavier Caristo was on the end of some slick backline play to score some fantastic tries and showing off his kicking skills slotting goals from the sideline, and Will Allen had an impressive day out with the boot kicking goals from all over the paddock.

Thank you to all coaches Alex Fox, Apakuki Ma’afu and Michael Shannon and students for your hard work and commitment and to parents/carers for your support over this period. We also look forward to the resumption of the ISA Season.

A Message from Head of Football

During the holidays we had football fixtures organised for Monday 15 July at Trinity Grammar School for all our A teams. With both schools havingmany boys absent or away, the following alternative was organised for both schools to get as much out of it as possible:

  • For our first game of the day, we combined 15As and 16AS where we won 3-1
  • 14As unfortunately lost 5-3, after the boys were 3-0 up.
  • 13As did very well playing with 10 men, drawing 5-5, after we conceded a last-minute penalty.
  • Second XI won 3-1, they played well, boys were up for the game, combined for some great team goals.
  • First XI lost 2-0, having several players out due to study workshop, it was hard to gel though the positive they had three Year 10 boys play and did well.

Overall, it was a good hit for the boys that were present especially for the students that are not playing for a club.

Fixtures vs. St Aloysius:

  • First XI drew 1-1, first half was good despite having five players out, 2nd half Aloysius scored in the first three minutes and the boys hung on for a draw.
  • Second XI lost 4-1, after scoring first and being positive, boys fell away in the 2nd half and conceded four goals.

Another good hit out that will benefit all involved.
