Year 2 Scienceworks Excursion
On the 21st of June the Grade 2 students went on their first excursion of the year to Scienceworks!
Students had a fantastic time exploring Sportworks and the Think Ahead area which prompted students to look into the future to what the world might be like in 10, 50 or even 100 years. We looked and investigated how AI may impact our world, what types of cars might be built in the future, and even how 3D printing can help save lives! We experienced all of this learning through hands-on, fun, engaging activities.
Next, we were able to experience the Lightning Theatre where our students learned all about how different types of weather is created in our world - including the wind, clouds, rain, rainbows, thunder and lightning. Which were made using mostly everyday objects like a kettle and balloons. Students watched in awe as the Tesla Coil created real lightning within the demonstration space.
After lunch, students were able to engage with the new Scienceworks exhibit, ‘Beyond Perception.’ This exhibit allowed us to learn all about how light and sound exists beyond what we can immediately see and/or hear.
It was a great day of learning for all of our students. Thank you to all of those people and our students who contributed to our wonderful day.

Kaffeetrinken - German Coffee Catch-Up
Imagine a cosy afternoon filled with laughter, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, and the sweet taste of homemade Kirschkuchen (German cherry cake). Our Year 2 students brought this delightful German tradition, Kaffeetrinken, to life with their baking skills in class and warm hospitality. As they welcomed family and friends to indulge in their delicious creations, the room buzzed with excitement and happiness. It was a heart-warming celebration of togetherness, where every bite of cake was savoured amidst the joyous chatter of proud students and their loved ones.

Laternelaufen - German Lantern Walk
On the 6th of June, the Year 1's assembled in front of the Cultural Centre at 5 pm just as it was starting to get dark. Each child proudly holding their handmade lanterns from German class excited to go for a lantern walk around our beautiful Lakeside lake.
The lantern walk, ingrained in German tradition, typically takes place on St. Martin’s Day during autumn in Germany. The legend has it that one day in winter, while on horseback, St. Martin came upon a poor man, barely clothed. St. Martin took out his sword and cut his cloak in half. He gave one half to the poor man for warmth.
Later he had a dream in which Jesus was wearing the half cloak. Jesus said to him, “As you have clothed the poor, so have you clothed me. Thank you.” The lantern walk is a symbol to bring light into the darkness. Witnessing the excitement on the children's faces as the lanterns illuminated the dark night was truly heart-warming.
Our journey included a pause at the far end of the lake, where we recounted the tale of St. Martin and joyously sang the German lantern song “Laterne, Laterne, Sonne, Mond und Sterne” which the children recalled fondly.
A sincere thank you to all who contributed to making this German tradition a memorable experience.

Year 5 Botanical Gardens
On the 24/06/24 the Year 5 cohort went on an excursion to the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens.
This term the year 5 students have been learning about how living things play a part in their habitat and ecosystems.
The Year 5's started the day with a tour around the gardens, where they explored all the different native plants. After lunch the students participated in a water quality activity. They were able to assess the quality of the water by identifying the different bugs in their water samples.
The students got to learn about and hold animal remains as a way of learning how native Australian animals survive and thrive in the wild.
We finished the day off going to the look-out tower, where the students could see a view of Melbourne and many other Victorian landmarks. We got to learn about the conservation programs that are being undertaken at the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens.
Overall, it was a fun and informative experience.
