ALWS and Refugee week
Last week marked Refugee Week, an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about refugees and celebrating their courage and contributions to society. Current estimates indicate that over 100 million people around the world are displaced from their homes due to hunger or war. This has increased dramatically over the last few years.
During the week, our College Chapel services focused on this theme. This not only deepened our students' understanding of global issues but also fostered a sense of empathy and compassion. A highlight was a special chapel service led by our 6A class. The students shared their reflections on what they had learned in Christian Studies this term, focusing on the challenges and resilience of refugees, illustrating how Jesus' experience as a refugee parallels the lives of many today.
Lakeside College supports refugees around the world through the Australia Lutheran World Service. ALWS works tirelessly to support communities affected by conflict, poverty and disaster. Throughout the year, students have opportunities to raise funds for ALWS and to support this work. You can find out more about the ALWS by visiting their website - https://www.alws.org.au/
Wall of Hope
Earlier this week, our College was a sea of pink for “Wear it Pink” day. While this was a fun day, we don’t ever want to forget the significant cause which we are supporting through this - fundraising for Breast Cancer research.
Cancer is something which has affected many in our College community. In order to acknowledge this and express our support, we set up a “Wall of Hope”. Members of the Lakeside College community were invited to contribute - adding the name of somebody affected by cancer, some words of support or a prayer.
There was also a Prayer of Hope, for those affected by cancer. If you ever have a specific prayer need, please feel free to contact Chaplain Fiona.
May God bless you and your family,
Chaplain Fiona
