Mildura Eisteddfod Dance Results
Congratulations to all of our dance students who participated in the Mildura Eisteddfod last week. With hard work and lots of practice the students were able to have a fun experience on the day and achieve some fantastic results.

Year 10 Work Experience
As an integral part of the Year 10 program at Merbein P10 College, students participate in two weeks of work experience. Work experience supports students to gain insights into an industry and work, develop employability skills, explore career options and increase their independence and self-confidence.
In 2024, work experience placements are scheduled for the two weeks, Monday 2nd September to Friday 13th September, in term three. Students can choose to arrange two one-week placements, or a single two-week placement. Placements should be in an area that students are interested in pursuing as a career pathway.
To arrange a placement, students are expected to approach prospective employers independently. While this is challenging for some students, it is an essential part of the work experience process. Teachers are happy to support students at school to plan and rehearse contacting an employer.
Once a placement is agreed with an employer, the following documentation must be completed and submited to the College office:
1. Work Experience Arrangement Form signed by the employer, parent & student and fully completed with personal details.
2. Completed Work Experience Travel and Accommodation Form and/or Proposed Work Experience With Animals Form (if relevant)
Copies of these forms are available on your Compass News Feed, on the Year 10 Google Classroom, and in hard copy from the Blue Office or Main Office at school.
The following occupational health and safety documentation must also be completed and submited to students’ Humanities teachers:
3. The student’s signed Department of Education and Training Safe@work General Module certificate and Career Tools Safety Modules
4. Any applicable DET Safe@work Industry Specific Modules (matched to the industry of the work experience) or Construction Induction Training (White Card)
We ask that students and families check Compass regularly for updates and additional information regarding work experience over the coming months.

End of Siesta Fiesta
The Secondary SRC are ready to celebrate the End of Semester with a Fiesta. On our last day of term, come in casual dress or as your favourite duo to be in the running for Best Dressed prizes or a chance to enter our Big Freeze Challenge. Our main event for the day is our Big Freeze Challenge. For everyone who donates $1 for causal dress, you will receive an entry into our raffle draw. Twenty lucky or not so lucky Duos will get to take the plunge into a foam pit of ice 🧊 in front of the whole school.
Not for you? Don’t worry. You can use your gold coin to nominate someone else who wants to go for a slide.
You can start nominate at lunch time for $1. Nominations close off at recess on the day of the event. All nominees will be asked for consent so please check with them before nominating them. The SRC will update a daily nomination tally on compass til the morning of the day of the event to see who might be taking the plunge.
We will also have fiesta food and soft drinks available to purchase on the day.
We can’t wait to celebrate with you, as Bon Jovi would say…..
Flu Vaccinations - Doctor's in Schools
To help you stay well this winter, flu vaccinations can be purchased and administered in the Doctors in Schools Clinic, for Secondary Students, for $15.00 (cash only, to be paid to nurse on arrival. Please have correct money)
Please book appointments through the school office.
Free flu vaccinations are available for eligible priority groups.
These priority groups include:
- children aged 6 months to 5 years
- people aged 65 years old and over
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
- pregnant women – at any stage of pregnancy
- people aged 6 months and older with medical conditions putting them at increased risk of severe flu and its complications.
Children and adolescents need special protection from the flu, especially babies and toddlers. The flu vaccine is just as important as other routine childhood vaccines and will protect them against the most common strains of the flu.

School Phone Policy
Students who choose to bring mobile phones to school must have them switched off and securely stored during school hours in their locker. If students are caught on their phone between 9am-3:17pm the following actions will occur:
1st Offence -phone is confiscated and stored in the main office. Phone will be returned to student at end of the day
2nd Offence- phone is confiscated and stored in the main office. Parent will be required to collect the phone.
3rd Offence- phone is confiscated and stored in the main office. Parent will be required to collect the phone. Student will be required to hand their phone to the front office each morning or leave their phone at home for a
period of time determined by the Principal/Assistant Principal
4th Offence- meeting with the Principal and a suspension may be applied.
Parents are reminded to contact the office on 50252501 to pass on messages to students. This is to avoid students using their phones at school and having it confiscated.
(Parents should not contact their child by phone between school hours of 9am and 3:17pm)

Doctors In Secondary Schools Program
Our Doctors in Secondary Schools program is available for all secondary students to access free (bulk-billed), confidential health care at school. This is a fantastic service which students can access for any of their health care needs including asthma/anaphylaxis plans, catch-up immunisations, mental/emotional health and any other medical concerns no matter how big or small. Students can see the school doctor for any reason that they would see their usual GP.
The rooms will be open every Wednesday during the school term from 9:30am – 2pm. Students can make appointments by contacting the general office or they can ask a teacher or wellbeing staff member to make the appointment for them – the only details required to make an appointment will be the student’s name, date of birth and a copy of the medicare card.
Parents are welcome to attend appointments if the student wishes.
