What has inspired you to study teaching?
Throughout Year 12 when considering the pathway I would like to take post school, I reflected on some teachers I had throughout my education and the role they played in ensuring I had a positive educational experience. These teachers created positive learning environments and encouraged me to be the best I could be. This inspired me to pursue a career in education and study teaching.
What are you looking forward to the most as a teacher?
I am most looking forward to being able to make a difference in as many students' lives as possible. I am excited to create strong connections with students and develop positive learning environments for students that I teach, as I know this was essential in the success of my own schooling experience. I am also looking forward to teaching the PDHPE syllabus, as I am passionate about the lifelong knowledge that students develop through their engagement with the subject.
What has inspired you to study teaching?
After finishing school, I wanted to pursue teaching but hesitated, fearing my parents' reaction (my mum had an unfavourable school experience). Long story short, when my youngest child left home, I asked the Lord to make His will for my life abundantly clear, and He surely did.
What are you looking forward to the most as a teacher?
I can't wait to start teaching and change one child's life at a time. I want to be the teacher who transforms a child's perception of school and life. As a swimming instructor, the most satisfying moment is when a child overcomes their fear, stepping out of their comfort zone and achieving what they once thought was impossible. The expression of joy on their face is priceless, and that is what I look forward to the most
What has inspired you to study teaching?
As I reached the end of Year 12 I was still discerning what my future career could be. Funnily enough, I was initially adamant that I wouldn’t be a teacher. It just sort of clicked one day when I realised I always found satisfaction in explaining things. It helped that I did speech and drama growing up which meant I could already project my voice and speak confidently. My Father, my eldest sister and my brother all became teachers. I guess it runs in the family. This combined with my passion for music and faith meant I could teach in subject areas I truly care about.
What are you looking forward to the most as a teacher?
What I am looking forward to most as a teacher is building strong connections with staff and students alike. It’s an ever-changing environment and teachers are in a unique position to positively impact a student’s development and passion for learning. I remember from my own time as a student how important the teacher was in my enjoyment of school and I’m excited to keep improving my practice to become the teacher that makes students look forward to lessons.
