From our College Captains

House Public Speaking

On 20 June, our four College houses collided in an intense battle of linguistic skill and persuasive prowess, and what better way to experience this than having the best speakers the College has to offer, delving into the topic of heroes!

With such an engaging and thought-provoking topic, the premises of the speeches did not disappoint. Ranging from unsung heroes such as parents, and the skills of the Taiwanese cave rescue, all the way to the heroism of the movie Shrek, proving it to be a seemingly close competition.

There was much at stake within the underlining of every sentence in a speech. As the verbal fight for House points continued, the Beda Spirit shone bright, as we all got around every speaker throughout the day.

As the last speech wrapped up and the points were tallied, we were ready to hear the results. It was announced that it was not LaSalle’s turn to be the first house to win 3 in a row, in fact, Benilde took it out, winning by a single point!

Congratulations to all the speakers.

House Football Carnival

Last Friday, Year 12s participated in the Annual House Footy Carnival. The first game was Benilde vs Solomon, with McCristal vs LaSalle in the second game.

Benilde jumped Solomon early, getting out to a commanding two-goal lead with just three minutes left. But Solomon's comeback loomed, with a late goal leading to a growing belief in the match's underdogs. Ultimately, Benilde was able to hold Solomon and firmed its place in the Grand Final later that day.

The second game began with a good start early from La Salle, putting McCristal under the pump, but failing to make it count on the scoreboard. McCristal then took control of the game and ended up with a comfortable win and advancing to the Grand Final.

The Grand Final was a tough-fought game from both sides, which started with McCristal getting an early goal. A late goal from Benilde's skipper for the day, Julian Stewart, saw the blues cut the lead to two points with just two minutes left. In the end, McCristal held off Benilde to win the Grand Final 9 to 7.

A big thank you to our AFL trainees - Jack Ferraro, Charlie Lalor, Andrew Valastro - as well as Mr Parton and Mr Forsyth for umpiring, to the House Coordinators and to Hamish Dunn for photos.
