Drive Safely Around Schools

Due to increased traffic congestion around the school during pick up and drop off times, here are some important reminders for students and families to be safe around schools. Please ensure you follow all road and safety rules when picking up and dropping off students. Please only use the designated drop off zone and parking areas which are clearly marked. Please do not stop in front of school or residential driveways.

A police operation was undertaken yesterday, and several speeding tickets were issued. The police will be back to enforce traffic rules.

Please remember:

  • Think before you park, drive, drop off and pick up.
  • Be careful around schools, follow signs and obey the road rules.
  • Slow down and be alert! Children can be unpredictable.

Gastroenteritis cases at school

We have been notified of cases of gastroenteritis in the school.

What is gastroenteritis?

Gastroenteritis (often called ‘gastro’) is a common infection of the bowel that can cause diarrhoea, vomiting, or both. Gastroenteritis normally settles quickly without treatment. Vomiting may last a day or two. Diarrhoea usually lasts two to three days but can last up to ten days. The most common cause of gastro is a virus, which tends to spread very easily and is not helped by antibiotics.

Stopping the spread of gastroenteritis

• Remind children to their wash hands well after using the toilet and

 before eating.

• Remind your children not to share drinks or food.

• Keep your child away from other children while they are unwell.

Gastro is highly contagious PLEASE DO NOT send your child to school until 48 hours after the last vomiting and or diarrhoea.

Head Lice

Head lice are tiny insects that vary in colour from cream to brown/black. ‘Nits’ is the common name for the small eggs that are laid by the head lice. They are the size of a grain of salt, yellow-white in colour, and are found glued to the hair near the scalp.  They are usually found behind the ears, the back of the neck and fringe.

Head lice are spread mostly by direct head-to-head contact.  The sharing of hats, combs and other hair accessories, may also spread head lice, but this is rare.  Head lice have nothing to do with cleanliness.

To assist us in the prevention of head lice spreading please ensure you check your child/ren’s hair. If head lice or nits are found, please treat immediately.

Your local pharmacy will also be able to offer some treatment options. Nits (live eggs) hatch in 7-10 days. The key to success in getting rid of them is to repeat whatever treatment you use after one week.

In the case that head lice or nits are detected on inspection it is required that you begin treatment prior to your child returning to school.

Thank you for your co-operation.
