From the Principal

As we move through the heart of Term 2, it’s been a joy to witness the energy and engagement of our students across a wide range of activities. From the spirited participation in the middle school lightning carnivals and senior school contemporary dance excursion to the reflective and meaningful experiences of our Year 10 students during their retreat, our college continues to offer diverse opportunities for growth and connection. At the same time, our Year 12 students are diligently completing their Externally Set Tasks (ESTs) and preparing for their upcoming exams. We commend them for their perseverance and focus, and we hold them in our thoughts and prayers as they approach this important milestone.

This past week, we also celebrated the ordination of Pope Leo, whose message of “building bridges” and “unity” resonates deeply with our mission as a Catholic learning community. In a world often marked by division, his call to foster understanding and connection is both timely and powerful. It reminds us of the importance of compassion, dialogue, and shared purpose—values that we strive to instil in our students every day.

Pope Leo’s message aligns beautifully with the spirit of National Reconciliation Week, which we observe next week. This is a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories and to strengthen the relationships between First Nations peoples and the wider community. At Lumen Christi, we are proud of our diverse and inclusive culture, and we are pleased to share that we have recently submitted our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to Narragunnawali, the education branch of Reconciliation Australia for approval. This document is grounded in the pillars of Respect, Relationships and Opportunities and reflects our call to action as we continue to build a community where all voices are heard and valued. We look forward to sharing our RAP and its strategies with the Lumen Christi College community in the coming months.

Finally, I am delighted to share that the long-anticipated refurbishment of our Science Block begins this week. This project has been in the planning stages for some time, and it is exciting to see it come to life. The updated facilities will provide our students with modern, innovative learning environments that support future-focused education in the sciences. We look forward to watching the transformation unfold and to the many learning opportunities it will bring.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in nurturing the growth and success of our students. May the weeks ahead be filled with learning, connection, and joy.

God bless,

Peter Sackett
