Learning & Teaching

Year One Inquiry

The Year One students have been learning about life cycles and how living things grow and change. Over the past two weeks, the children have had front row seats to observe some chicken eggs incubate, hatch and develop. The children have been predicting what changes they might observe and have been recording their observations each day. Today, they sadly farewelled the cute, fluffy chicks who have journeyed back to the farm to continue growing and changing into adult chickens.

Year 4 Bayview Adventure Camp Reflections

Accommodation by Xabi D

In my cabin there was Thomas, Raf, Evan, Ethan and Felix. Thomas, Raf and I got the top bunks while the others were below us. The first night we did not get much sleep as we talked and talked all night. We even heard the other cabins talking and laughing. The second night was different because we had a big day and we were tired so we did not talk and got so much sleep. The beds were cozy and we even had a heater and an AC in the room. In the bathroom, we had a small shower, a sink and a toilet.

Canoeing by Ivy O

We did canoeing in groups and we had to pick a partner to do canoeing with. I picked Lucinda to be my partner. First we learnt how to put on the life vest. After we all learnt how to paddle and what to do if your canoe flipped over, we got in the water. Amelia the instructor, told us to sit in the middle of the canoe or we would flip over. We got 10 minutes to practice. After we all had a practice, we started to play some games like floating basketball. We were split into two teams - Blue and Green. We had to work together and try and get the ball into Amelia’s boat with Milly inside. The scores were 1-4. My team lost but no one cared except some of the boys.

Giant Swing by Paris K

The Giant Swing was amazing because the top was eighteen meters which was very high and I was certain I was going to go to the top. I was the last one to go on the Giant Swing in my group, so I got to see a lot of people which made me confident. When I reached the seventeen meter mark, I got scared and told them to stop, and when I let go it swung very fast which was awesome. At the end of the Giant Swing, I was annoyed at myself because I didn’t go to the top.

JNR Farm by Ethan L

When we did the Junior Farm we had so much fun. First we went to the sheep and fed them bread. The horses were also there but we couldn't feed them bread so we fed them carrots instead. There were 2 horses and the big horse was called Billy which had only been at the camp for 2 weeks. The small horse named Izzy was very naughty and scared all the sheep away by kicking them. Then we went to the pigs. There were only 2 pigs but we still got to feed them. There was an electric fence and the pigs got shocked many times. The pigs were very silly and went to the food that was on the electric fence. Lastly, we went to the goats. We got to go inside and pat them and we fed them grains. It tickled my hands.

Radio Runabout by Milly C

The Radio Runabout was so fun. What you had to do was get a walkie talkie with your group and use a map to find answers to questions. One of the questions was, How many pieces were on the chess board?' We then had to use the walkie talkie to tell Mrs D the answer, 'This is Group 1. The answer to question 5 is 32 chess pieces. Over.' Then we could move to the next question.

High Ropes by Lucinda V

The high ropes course had 4 amazing obstacle courses such as the multi-vines, the leap of faith, the catwalk and the wobbly bridge. I did the catwalk and the wobbly bridge. The wobbly bridge was the hardest because you had nothing to hold onto and you had to balance while you were walking across it. I definitely would do the wobbly bridge again but instead of doing the catwalk, I would do the multi-vines because the multi-vines are harder than the catwalk.

Biking by Rupert G

The biking was fun because the bikes had gears so we could find a good gear to stay on the whole time. Then we did something called a slow race where we had to go as slow as possible and our feet couldn’t touch the ground. After that, we did limbo but on the bikes so it was extra hard. Next we rode up the side of the hill to start riding around camp. We rode over pavement, tree roots and gravel.

Bayview's Amazing Race by Nyla G

The Bayview Amazing Race was our last activity at Bayview Adventure Camp and my team's name was 'The best' and we came 1st place for our chant. It sounded like this,  'B-E-S-T! We are the best! We are the best! We are the best of Bayview hooray!'
