Out & About at Edgeworth Public School
Reading Intervention: MiniLit and MacqLit
At our school, we are committed to ensuring all children have the support they need to become confident readers. As part of our Learning and Support processes, students from Year 1 to Year 6 are assessed to identify those who may benefit from additional help in reading.
Selected students are then supported through MiniLit (for early readers) or MacqLit (for older students), which are evidence-based programs designed to target specific reading needs. These small-group interventions focus on phonics, fluency, and comprehension, and are delivered by trained staff.
This targeted support helps ensure every child is given the opportunity to succeed in reading and continue progressing in their learning.
Kindergarten Transition – Kindy Expo
As part of our Kindergarten Transition program, we proudly held our Kindy Expo on 29 May, offering families a valuable opportunity to experience a ‘day in the life’ at Edgeworth Public School. This event is a key part of preparing children for a confident and successful start to school.
Families met our Early Stage 1 team and learned about our curriculum focus, classroom routines, and how we support students’ learning and wellbeing from day one. A wide range of community and school services were also present, including the P&C, Fair Play OOSH, Active OOSH, Kylie from the Uniform Shop, AECG Early Learning, Edgeworth Community Centre, Edgeworth Family Dentist, NSW Health, and our Learning and Support Team.
I am very privildged to be working along side such an incredible staff that make these events happen. I would like to sincerely thank the outstanding team behind this event; Mrs Laura Lewis, Miss Kendal McCallum, Mrs Kadi Carr, and Miss Bec Lee for their leadership, planning, and coordination. Our school counsellors – Mr Kyle Smith, Ms Belinda Monticone, and Senior Psychologist Mr Ahamd Hanouf. Our dedicated staff – Mrs Alissa McBlane, Miss Ash Meagher, Miss Lara Reece, Mrs Amy Campton, Mrs Bec Baird, Mrs Mel Neilsen, Mrs Theresa Blair. Our amazing General Assistant Chris, and Seyong for managing the BBQ.
Looking ahead, our Eager for Edgy sessions have already begun, continuing to build familiarity and confidence for our 2025 Kindergarten students. Please check the school calendar for the most up-to-date information and session dates.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the Kindy Expo such a warm and informative event for our future families.
