La journée de la francophonie

On Wednesday 20 March, we celebrated the journée internationale de la francophonie. This day celebrates all French-speaking countries and the more than 300 million French people who speak French around the world! French is the fifth most spoken language in the world. At AHS, this day holds a special place as three of our French staff are native to French Islands, including Mauritius Island, Reunion Island and New Caledonia/Tahiti.

In preparation for this day, Year 7 French students created flags of francophone countries which were on display in the student entrance, while Year 8 students learnt and made posters about Francophonie!

To continue with celebrations, we also had the pleasure of taking part in a session of Afro-Latino dance at lunchtime on Thursday, much to the delight of both students and staff who learnt new moves for the dance floor!

Professional Learning with Specialist Primary and Secondary French Teachers from Lycée Condorcet, Sydney

On 8 March, the French Binational Team had the pleasure to welcome Isabelle Savary and Michèle Lacoste, two “professeurs référents” for the AEFE Asia-Pacific Zone for one day of professional learning here at Auburn High School. We thank them for their enthusiasm and expertise and we look forward to starting some exciting projects this year.

French Film Festival

As part of the French Film Festival, AHS staff were invited to attend a screening of the movie The President’s Wife at Palace Cinema Como. This captivating portrait of an unexpected feminist icon, Bernadette Chirac, was indeed very entertaining and both French-speaking and non French-speaking staff enjoyed it very much!
