Game Changers

Game Changers Newsletter

At the beginning of term 1, we have introduced yet another group of Game Changers students. The Game Changers is a significant program at Sunbury College that aims to increase school engagement of our year 8 and 9 students. Below is a snap-shot of different activities students have had the opportunity to participate in over the course of the term:

Cooking class

Students have done a considerable amount of cooking already this term which is fantastic!

Students have made chocolate-chip cookies, muffins, pancakes, homemade pasta, pizza and many more things. Students have participated really well as a team and are very helpful when it comes to cleaning the kitchen. We look forward to cooking some more things up in the future!

Project Sunbury

During Project Sunbury, students have been given the opportunity to create a project based on their current interests and goals. Some projects students have been working on include:

Creating a camping guide for people wanting to travel along the Great Ocean Road

Creating a cookbook and improving cooking skills

Researching about famous artists

Researching about the Solar System

Researching about the Spartans

Students have been fantastic in this aspect of the program and I look forward to see their growth going back into the classroom.

Kismet Park Primary School

Students have been attending Kismet Park Primary School each week to participate in some sports with the grade 4 students. They have been really engaged with this aspect of the program!!! The primary students are so excited when the Sunbury College kids come to see them - it is the highlight of their week! At the moment we are teaching them basketball, cricket and netball and will continue this in the coming weeks. Every student is always active and encouraging the kids to participate - which is lovely to see!

Excursions – Bounce, Escape Room and Ice skating

As part of the program, students venture out of Sunbury College every second Wednesday. Students really enjoyed this aspect of the program, especially the jail escape room we went to in the city. Students had to put their thinking caps on and work on their problem solving skills to escape the prison! Below are some snaps from the excursions:
