Term 1 Celebrations

This term, Sunbury College has celebrated both International Women’s Day and Harmony Week with our students. These are important days in our calendar to promote inclusion and a sense of belonging for all members of our community. The bell music, messages in assemblies, music performances and stalls run by Wellbeing staff championed the importance and value of these days. It was great to see so many students enjoying the events and discussing the days with peers and teachers.

NAPLAN

All NAPLAN tests have now been completed by students in Year 7 and 9, and the results will be made available to parents later in the year. Students were very well behaved during these testing sessions, and we’d like to recognise and thank them for their cooperation during the testing periods. Changes to timetables and usual lessons can be disruptive, but all the students managed these disruptions with maturity and responsibility.

Assemblies

In Connect lessons in Week 8, students in Years 8-10 celebrated their achievements over the course of Term 1. A number of students received awards in recognition of the positive start they have made to 2024, and student leaders in Yr 10 addressed the cohort with feedback on some of the key events. Congratulations to all those whose efforts were publicly acknowledged, and to all those students who may not have been recognised in assembly, but whose efforts and commitment to their learning are noticed by their teachers each lesson.

New Soft Shell jacket for Sunbury College students

Following feedback from students and their families, a new soft-shell jacket was introduced to our uniform in late 2023. The soft-shell jacket complements both the academic and sports uniform and can be worn with the College spray jacket and/or the College jumper.

As Term 1 draws to an end, the weather will start to turn cooler and we advise that students and their families check their current uniform to see if they are prepared and give thought to purchasing the new soft-shell.

The College uniform can be purchased from the PSW shop located at 6/106-110 Gap Rd, Sunbury (lower level opposite Aldi). The opening hours are Wednesday – Friday 10am – 5pm. Saturday 10am – 1pm.

The soft shell is sold for $90.

Students are NOT permitted to wear non-uniform items to and from school and whilst at school. At times, a minority of our students have been found to be wearing non-school items at school, including hoodies and track pants that are not Sunbury College issue. Wearing the uniform correctly sends a strong message about school pride and belonging at school. Staff at Sunbury College will continue to enforce a dress code, and where a student presents out of uniform, they will be respectfully asked to remove this and, in some cases, issued an appropriate consequence.

We recognise and thank the majority of students and their families who continue to support the school’s efforts to maintain and enhance school pride and our values by wearing the College uniform correctly.

Parent Student Teacher Conferences

We thank the large number of parents and guardians who attended the Parent Student Teacher conferences held in the last week of term. The conferences provide students and their families with a great opportunity to gather feedback and to reflect upon successes and areas for improvement. Working in partnership with parents and guardians supports our students to realise their goals for their educational and wellbeing outcomes.

At the end of week 2, in Term 2, our second cycle of Work Habit Reports will be released.

Monday afternoon Study Club

Each Monday afternoon from 3:15pm, students can access the Hub and undertake study and homework for their respective subjects. Teachers from a range of subjects volunteer their time to be on hand for students who would like some one on one assistance and/or work in small groups. This platform provides a great opportunity for students to develop habits around the completion of homework tasks and preparing for assessment. A big thank you to all of the teachers who have volunteered their time in Term 1, and to the students who have shown dedication to their learning through attending.
