Year 11 and 12

Updates for Year 11 and 12 Students

We're excited to report that the senior students at Sunbury College have hit the ground running this year and have worked hard right up to the end of Term 1. Last week our Year 12s celebrated their last ever Term 1 during Connect with easter eggs, hot cross buns and Stress Buster activities. This week our Year 12s were very excited to receive their long awaited Year 12 Rugby tops.

Academically, our seniors have demonstrated a strong work ethic, tackling challenges with resilience and determination. Their efforts have translated into impressive results in their assessments. Many of our students have begun engaging with our Careers and Pathways team and are starting to look to their future careers.

We commend our senior students for their hard work so far this year. With their continued dedication, we're confident they'll make this year a memorable and successful one.

Some highlights from the term:

Year 12 Stress-busters - Connect

Year 12 students participated in ‘stressbuster’ activities during Connect last Tuesday. It was a great opportunity to reset for Term 2 and enjoy the company and support of friends. There was an abundant supply of Easter buns and chocolate to make the event even ‘sweeter’.

Well done Year 12 on a stellar Term 1!

Year 11 Biology Excursion

Year 11 Biology students went to Melbourne Zoo. We looked at adaptations and ethical approaches regarding the Southern Corroboree Frog. We also used scientific inquiry skills to collect data on feeders in the butterfly enclosure to go towards integrating a new butterfly species. We had time to explore the zoo and see other programs and animals out and about. It was a great day.

Year 12 Physics Excursion

In year 12 Physics we recently visited Luna Park where were able to apply our understanding of forces and energy to amusement rides. Throughout the day students collected and analysed data on each of the rides. Overall, it was a great day and opportunity to see how physics is all around us!

Buying A Car

Year 12 VCE VM students visited Sunbury Ford this week as part of their Numeracy unit ‘Buying a car’. A huge thank you to Andrew for his time and insightful responses to students’ questions.

Year 12 VCEVM

Year 12 VCEVM students went rock climbing as part of their Personal Development ‘Team Work’ Unit. The skills displayed by the students were outstanding- resilience, respect, and empathy. We are super proud of this group in the way they conduct themselves, their motivation to strive for their best and the support and encouragement they give each other. GO VM!

Year 12 Physics

In March each year, Luna Park hosts VCE Physics Days where the amusement park is open only to students studying Physics.   As part of their first outcome ‘ Explaining motion in 2 dimensions’ the year 12 physics class attended this day and were able to apply their understanding of forces and energy to amusement rides.

Throughout the day students filled out a booklet with data and observations they had collected from first-hand experience.  They then used their knowledge of physics to complete calculations and explain their observations.

A highlight of the visit was experiencing apparent weightlessness on rides which went upside down and using our understanding of forces in vertical circular motion to explain why we felt lighter and heavier at certain points in the rides.

Overall, it was a great day and opportunity to see how physics is all around us!
