Summer Lightning Premiership & Learn 2 Swim

John Wink

Last Friday all Year 5 & 6 students participated in the Caulfield & District Summer Lightning Premiership. Thank you to all families for ensuring your child was at school a little earlier than usual to get to venues promptly.  Students competed against other schools in basketball, cricket, softball and volleystars. Once again, I’d like to thank Peter Wilkins for assisting with our basketball teams and all Year 5 & 6 staff for what is always a big day!!

Around the Grounds

Basketball

“Although we weren’t the best team, we did get to the quarter finals. I enjoyed the day. The Caulfield South teams worked well together. The best part of the day for me was when we started to work well together and won some games.” Leo (Year 5)

“I did basketball with my friends. We were called the Caulfield South Allstars. We had lots of fun. We made it to the semi-finals, and it was a great way to spend my last Summer Lightning Premiership at CSPS.” Rebecca (Year 6)

“It was a lot of fun, and we nearly made it through to the finals. I liked playing as well as watching the other CSPS teams play.” Hugo (Year 5)

“Many of the teams were tough and played well. We won only one or two games out of about 6 and we tied once. Overall, we had a really great day and I’m glad that I chose basketball for my Summer L.P.” Rae (Year 6)

“I really enjoyed the day, and it was well organised. My team was the Allstar Girls. We made it to the semi-finals and sadly came out unsuccessful. I was and still am very proud of how my team played.” Mabel (Year 6)

Cricket

“It was a lot of fun. We had a chance to try our best and it felt very fair. Everyone got a go and everyone followed the rules. We won all three games and I really enjoyed playing cricket as I usually just play with my dad in the backyard.” Sophie (Year 5)

“The day was fun even though we didn’t win everything. We all had fun supporting and cheering our friends.” Frankie (Year 6)

“Cricket went well. We didn’t finish first, but we did well. We won 2 out of 4. We had an enjoyable and fun day. Our favourite game was our last by dominating in it. Our toughest game was our second game because they were people who knew their cricket. Even though we weren’t the best we all did our best and had fun." Ciaran (Year 6)

Volleystars

“I was in the girls’ team, and I think we won 2 out of 5 games. Even though we didn’t win it all, I still had a great time hanging out and having a fun time.” Ruby (Year 5)

“I was in the mixed team. We were undefeated throughout the day. We played at Lloyd Street Primary School. The closest match we played was against Malvern which went to 3 sets. If I were to sum up the day in 3 words I’d say teamwork, fun and sportsmanship. Daniel X (Year 6)

Softball

“On Friday March 22 we played in Summer L.P. The mixed team started with a loss but then got a close win against Glen Huntly as it was a tie. Unfortunately, the mixed team lost the rest of the next 2 games. All the teams tried their best and had a fun day.” Abbie (Year 6)

“We had a positive attitude throughout the day even though we didn’t win a game. We did tie a game. We put all our effort into all of the games.” Harvey B (Year 6)

Learn to Swim

The Prep – Year 2 Intensive Swimming Program will run for 5 days of instruction. Dates are as follows: Friday 19th April , Monday 22nd - 26th April (excluding ANZAC Day).

Please note that the swimming groups for day 1 is used as an assessment day. Students are put into groups according to their nominated level (from the previous year or from parents if the student is new to CSPS) and assessed by the GESAC staff who teach hundreds of students each week. From day 2 onwards, the students will be in the same group or a different one, based on the assessment of day 1.

Please refrain from emailing your child’s class teacher about groupings.
