Assistant Principal's Report

Georgia Despotellis

This is the last newsletter for Term 1! It is hard to believe that we are at the end of the first term of the year.

We have begun our journey to implement the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support initiative (SWPBS) into our school. Our wellbeing leader, Labreni Pappas is leading the wellbeing team through the online modules and professional learning. The photo below is taken when our SWPBS coach, Anthony, ran his first session with the entire staff last week.

Below is a snapshot of some of the great learning and activities that our students are engaged in daily.

Wellbeing

Positive Coping is the focus for today!

Positive coping strategies are any actions that a person takes to manage and reduce stress in their life. People who use positive strategies are better able to tackle challenges and bounce back from setbacks quicker. They are also much happier people.

We all need to find the best coping strategies that work for us.

Below is a list of coping strategies that we can teach our children to use:

  • Turn to someone they trust and ‘talk it out’
  • Write down their problems/worries
  • Walk away from stressful situations
  • Use positive self talk
  • Learn to forgive
  • Breathing activities
  • Mindfulness
  • Be creative/use imagination

These activities are based on the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships teaching and learning materials and program delivered at our school.

Please see below for examples of activities for students in Years 5 and 6.

Please see link to access activities for students in other year levels.
