Boarding News

National Boarding Week in Week Five was a great success

We started the week with a Boarders' Assembly where our boarding students could showcase 'What Makes Boarding Tick', and they shared some footage of their lives at home.  Our Boarding Captains, Brianna Cunningham and Steven Wiech, spoke about National Boarding Week and presented a Boarders badge to the boarders from each house.

Kate Mitchell from The Darcy Effect also spoke about the not-for-profit organisation.

Thankyou to Head of Secondary School, Mrs Victoria Turnor for supporting our special assembly.

On Wednesday, we had a Boarders' Field Day, during which students explored the machinery brought on site from McIntosh & Sons and AFGI (John Deere). Our Boarding Captains and Head of Boarding were interviewed by ABC Radio and later had a phone interview with the Farm Weekly. Our boarders shone as they explained to the students what each piece of machinery was called and what it was used for.

Kate Mitchell from The Darcy Effect also had a stand, she held a free raffle for students with the prizes being two bags of merchandise from The Darcy Effect and a John Deere Esky donated by AFGRI.  We congratulate Madison Belfield (Year Ten) and Mila Jeppe (Year Eleven) for winning The Darcy Effect prizes and Jack Willis (Year Ten) for winning the AFGRI prize.

Mrs Teresa McAllister and the Year Twelve Hospitality students supported the day by selling coffee and collecting funds for the lamb rolls on sale. All proceeds were donated to The Darcy Effect.

We thank the Cant family and the Cosh family for donating lambs for the lamb roll sales and thank the Catering Staff for cooking and serving the rolls.  Thanks must also go to the Facilities team for helping with the setup and pack down of the day.

Our staff were celebrated with a small gift of chocolate, parents received a call home from their children and our catering staff organised a cake for the boarders to enjoy for National Boarding Week.

A final thank-you to our Principal, Mr Mathew Irving for his support of the week. It was a great way for Great Southern Grammar to celebrate 'one community'.

We cannot tell you how much it was appreciated.

We encourage all families to attend these events if you can and help us spread the word to friends and family in these regions.
