National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS)

We had a wonderful Wednesday morning with the entire Primary school in our library enjoying listening to the reading of Bowerbird Blues read by the author and illustrator Aura Parker. We have had many class discussions about bowerbirds and the things that we collect as humans. I am in awe of Aura Parker’s illustrations, and she quickly drew a bowerbird for the 2.2 million participants watching all at the same time.

NSS brings people together—whether in classrooms, libraries, or childcare centres. It fosters a sense of community and shared experience. When we read together, we build connections with one another, reinforcing the importance of storytelling and literature.

This is an event that students remember long after leaving school. I received an email from a past Head Girl Erin McAllister (2017, Camfield) who is now teaching in Perth. Erin sent me a photo of her class watching National Simultaneous Storytime as well and said she thought of us here at GSG watching too.

Year Twelve Morning Tea

This morning we welcomed Year Twelve Students for morning tea accompanied by their Year Twelve teachers. We wish the Year Twelves good luck in their upcoming exams. During exams, we will have two homerooms in the library in the mornings, which we thoroughly enjoy.

Scholastic Book Club

Book Club forms were handed to classes last week and are due back on Friday 24 June by 9.00am.

Issue Four pamphlets have already arrived and will go out at the end of Week Seven. The Issue Three pamphlets arrived late so there will be some overlap. We will send out the Issue Four pamphlets next week so that books are here before the end of term for anyone wishing to order.

There are two options for ordering.

  1. Use your own Scholastic account to order and pay online. (Loop) If you would like to set up a new account go to: http://scholastic.com.au/register
  2. Please enclose cash with your completed order form. Orders brought to school must have the correct change. We do not keep cash in the Library. Cheques should be made payable to Scholastic Australia. Your completed forms can be handed into the library.

Thank you all for support of the library.
