Learning In My Level

A celebration of what's happening across the school!

Learning In My Level this week focuses on Education Week!

Education Week ran from Monday 13th - 17th May and we celebrated with our Open Afternoon and lots of wonderful STEM tasks happening across the school.

Foundation:

As part of Education Week 2024, we welcomed parents and grandparents into the classrooms. With a Spotlight on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths), the children have been designing and building chicken coops. This has tied in with our Term 2 Inquiry unit about Farms and the children were very keen to showcase their creations (& we could see many enjoyed having an assistant builder on board!). So much collaboration and creative thinking was taking place!

Year 1 and 2:

As part of the Education Week theme of ‘Spotlight on STEM’, Year 1 and 2 students created their very own theme park rides. Their design brief was to create a ride which had a part which moves.  The students enthusiastically came up with their very own rides and what an amazing effort they displayed in creating some very interesting and creative rides. During the Education Week open afternoon, many parents had the opportunity to view the rides created in class.

Year 3:

During the recent ‘Spotlight on STEM’ in Education Week, Year 3 students thoroughly enjoyed playing a number of different Mathematics games. These games allowed students to showcase their understanding of the four operations, and use different strategies they have learnt throughout the year so far. The games also included an element of chance, and required students to demonstrate critical and creative thinking.

Year 4:

As part of the Education Week ‘Spotlight on STEM’, the Year 4 students enthusiastically engaged in a variety of mathematics games. These games revised some of the concepts we have learnt so far this year, in particular multiplication, addition and place value. During our Open Afternoon, Year 4 students confidently taught their parents and carers how to play these games, which provide our students the opportunity for meaningful practise.

Year 5:

Our Year 5 students had a fantastic education week. During ‘Open Afternoon’ we loved having our families join us to work on our sustainability inquiry projects, helping our students to formulate questions and conduct research.

During the week, we also had had a focus on hands on maths activities, estimating the specs of glitter on a star.
