Principal's Report

Flexible. Resilient. Positive. 2024

We have had another wonderful fortnight of learning at Rangeview! We celebrated Education Week and had our annual Open Afternoon, we ran a Foundation 2025 Information Session, Level 4 went on excursion to Schwerkolt Cottage, Foundation students had an excursion to Myuna Farm, Levels 1, 2, 3 and 6 had a week of intensive swimming sessions, our School Council met, we participated as a school in the National Simultaneous Storytime, and we commemorated National Sorry Day with a reading of the Prime Minister's Apology speech by our cultural captains.

Education Week

We celebrated Education Week from Monday 13th May to Friday 17th May with the theme – Spotlight on STEM. Grades have been participating in STEM projects across the school and we had a very successful Open Afternoon on Monday 13th. It was lovely to see so many families come in to see the learning in the classrooms and then to watch our musical performances in the gym. We followed the Open Afternoon with a Foundation Information Session in the Foundation Hub for prospective 2025 families. This was well attended by some prospective Rangeview Families.

Thank you to our wonderful Rangeview school sponsor Noel Jones Mitcham for the Coffee Cart - this was very popular on the night!

National Sorry Day

Every year on 26 May, National Sorry Day remembers and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’. National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. While this date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, it is also commemorated by Australians right around the country.

At Rangeview we are recognising National Sorry Day on Friday 24th May with developmentally appropriate lessons in classrooms. Our Cultural Captains are reading a section of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's National Apology over the PA system for all students to hear.

Swimming Sessions

We began the schools intensive swimming sessions this week with Levels 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 attending lessons at Aqualink in Nunawading. Just Swimming at Aqualink is an outstanding swim school with a focus on refining and strengthening technique. Students all bus to the pools and the first session is spent grading and grouping the students to ensure the instruction is targeted and the students have opportunity to move up in their skill development. As a school we have grown significantly since booking this years swimming sessions, and as such we had some teething issues to work through with changeroom space and class groupings. We have had much positive feedback from students at all levels around these sessions and they are returning tired and happy from the pools. Next week we will continue this program with Level 4 and 6 classes participating.

Thank you to all of the staff who have supported the swimming this year and the parents who have assisted. Thank you to Mitch Clark who organised the sessions and also to Kate McLeod who put the time into the highly complex timetables which ensured that the school could operate over this time with so many students involved.

Foundation Myuna Farm Excursion

On Tuesday 14th May our Foundation students went to Myuna Farm to learn about animals and their care. This connects to their Inquiry Unit at school around Life on the Farm. The students interacted with a variety of animals and had pony rides! There was plenty of learning and also plenty of fun.
