National Simultaneous Story Time

On Wednesday we enjoyed a day filled with blue as we celebrated the annual Australian Library Information Association National Simultaneous Storytime.

At 12pm a live reading was streamed all around Australia, New Zealand and the world of The Bowerbird Blues.  The Green Square Library in Sydney was very lucky to host the event and have the author and illustrator of the book, Aura Parker, read it and then describe how she came up with the lovable main character whilst illustrating him.

The event was attended by 2,341,490 people in over 21,000 locations.

Below are some links to observe and learn more about this beautiful bird.

I am a collector. Always looking, finding ... and keeping!

The book is a moving story of longing and connection, that unfolds as the bowerbird’s search sends him soaring across the sea, sky and city. He swoops and snatches vibrant treasures for his collection, and soon his bower—a mix of natural and unnatural objects—attracts something greater and more fulfilling than he could ever have imagined.

We are extremely fortunate to have 5 copies of the book available for students to now borrow. These were purchased utilising our Scholastic Book Club rewards.

Students from 3B and 4W enjoyed creating wonderful artwork and colouring activities in their classrooms after watching a recording of the event.

Book Reviews

It is so interesting for us to read your book reviews on the Challenge School web page each day and we hope you are having fun writing them!

Here are some helpful tips and things to consider when writing an informative book review!

  • Your opinion of the book – whether you like it or not?
  • Information about the book – try and tell the reader what happens however don’t reveal TOO much and spoil it!
  • What did you enjoy most? Why did you enjoy it?
  • What did you not enjoy?  Why didn’t you enjoy it?
  • End your review with a summary; would you recommend it? Is it similar to any other books?
  • What age range do you think would enjoy the book?
  • What do you know about the Author?
  • Name on or two of the interesting characters – can you make any connections to yourself?
  • Can you give a rating or stars for the book?

The Great Book Swap

THANK YOU so much for the large selection of books donated over the last two weeks – please keep them coming!

While the event does not take place until Thursday 5th September we have started our book donation drive!  A basket has been placed in the office foyer for you to leave donations until a week before the event.  We kindly ask that you only donate books in good condition and suitable reading for Primary aged students

Library Captains, Bailey, Michael, Felix and Zoe are checking the donations regularly and sorting them into appropriate age levels.
