A Message from Our College Captain | Eairn Santos
At the last Chapel, Youth Pastor Jarred talked to us about identity, specifically in the word of God. It got me thinking that in a world that constantly bombards us with messages about who we should be, it's easy to feel lost in the quest for identity. We chase trends, accomplishments, and external validation, hoping they'll fill the void within. But what if our true identity isn't something we create but already established?
Personally, after Pastor Jarred's talk, I became curious and looked through my Bible, which offers a beautiful perspective on who we are in God's eyes.
Genesis tells us we are created "imago Dei" - in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). This doesn't mean we physically resemble God, but that we possess inherent value and dignity, reflecting God's character in our capacity for love, creativity, and purpose. Our worth isn't based on achievements or failures. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us we are God's "masterpiece," created in Christ Jesus to do good works. This unwavering love is the foundation of our identity. And Psalm 139 celebrates the intricate detail with which God knit us together. Our personalities, gifts, and experiences make us one-of-a-kind masterpieces. And Psalm 139 celebrates the intricate detail with which God knit us together. Our personalities, gifts, and experiences make us one-of-a-kind masterpieces.
This taught me that we are worthy simply because God created us. Our worth isn't dependent on our achievements or failures; each person is special and irreplaceable, designed by God with specific gifts and experiences. This all adds up to the idea that our core identity comes from being created and loved by God. It's not about external validation or achievements but about understanding our inherent value and living out the unique purpose God has for us.
Crocs and Socks Day
We held our first Crocs and Socks Day fundraiser. Our Primary students raised almost $600 for World Vision Australia. The Primary Student Leadership chose World Vision Australia as a charity after hearing about the amazing work they were doing with the 40-Hour Famine and look forward to becoming more involved in the initiative next term.
