Project Compassion
For those who were not here at pick-up after school Tuesday and Wednesday last week, see below for the videos of our brave teachers being drenched with icy cold water. Thank you to these brave individuals who kindly provided a massive incentive for the students to work hard at raising funds for Project Compassion.
At next Monday morning's assembly, Gwen Michener - the Community Engagement Animator ‑ VIC & TAS from Caritas Australia will be our special guest. She will be there to say thank you to the OHR community for all their efforts which saw us raise over $3,500 for Project Compassion this year. Gwen will also share a little of the current humanitarian projects Caritas is assisting with and how the money we raised might be put to use.
A snapshot of RE Learning in 1/2DE
In 1/2D we are preparing for Grandparents Day on Friday. We reflected on the importance of Grandparents in our lives.
John 2:1-11 We too show respect for our parents-for each members of our family, and all people-by treating them as special and unique.
Along with special portraits of our Grandparents we also wrote special prayers which recognised the love and valuable connection students have with their other family members.
Benji: I pray all Grandparents stay healthy.
Atticus: I pray the grandparents have a great day on Friday.
Roy: I pray that grandparents stay safe.
Caleb: I pray that our Grandparents have a good life.
Nikita: I pray they have a lovely time.
Lord Jesus,
you were born of the Virgin Mary,
the daughter of Saints Joachim and Anne.
Look with love on grandparents the world over.
Protect them! They are a source of enrichment
for families, for the Church and for all of society.
Support them! As they grow older,
may they continue to be for their families
strong pillars of Gospel faith,
guardians of noble domestic ideals,
living treasuries of sound religious traditions.
Make them teachers of wisdom and courage,
that they may pass on to future generations the fruits
of their mature human and spiritual experience.
Amen
Sunday Gospel
The liturgy of the Catholic Church provides a framework for reflection which is used by Catholics throughout the world. Each week in the Newsletter, you will find the Sunday Gospel as well as some discussion questions to have with your child/ren.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew
The eleven disciples set out for Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had arranged to meet them. When they saw him they fell down before him, though some hesitated. Jesus came up and spoke to them. He said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.’
Discussion Questions
1. What are some of the earliest things you remember when you were very small?
2. In today’s Gospel Jesus tells us that he is with us always, in the past, in the present and in the future. Who are the three persons in one God?
3. How can we praise God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for all that we have been given?
4. God calls us his sons and daughters. As the children of God, how do we show the Spirit of God is working in us?
We pray that we will grow to love the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit more by what we say and do.
