Highlights from Heights Campus
This past week, our school came together to celebrate Reconciliation Week, an important time for us to reflect on and promote understanding and respect between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.
Our students engaged in a variety of enriching activities that highlighted the stories, cultures, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. These activities included reading and discussing age-appropriate books by Indigenous authors, participating in craft projects inspired by Indigenous art, and writing reflections on what reconciliation means to them.
It was great to see many of our families enjoying the Reconciliation Week Community Breakfast on Wednesday. Special thanks to Mckayla who is one of our Education Support staff working on our Springvale Campus this year, for making Johnny Cake dough. If you didn’t get to try one of the delicious Johnny Cakes - you missed out!
One of the highlights of our Reconciliation Week was the special assembly held on Friday May 31st. Students from across the school created paper hands with a written message outlining their commitment to reconciliation. The hands will be planted at the front of the school to create a Sea of Hands, which represents our commitment to Reconciliation and emphasizes the importance of coming together as a community to build stronger relationships based on mutual respect and understanding.
Reconciliation Week is a vital part of our school’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment. We are proud of the meaningful conversations and activities that took place, and we encourage everyone to continue this important journey beyond Reconciliation Week.
Kind regards,
Mrs Sarah Orme Assistant Principal
