Year 2 News
Who We Are
The Year 2 children have continued to explore what makes a healthy lifestyle. With a partner, they completed a book study, selecting three interesting facts and what the book was mainly about.
Students also learnt about a range of different sports that lead to a balanced lifestyle in preparation for their Speaking and Listening Learning task on a selected sport.
They had fun creating a new sport combining two known sports into one and did a fantastic job with the new name and how it is played. We looked into how we need to lead a balanced and healthy lifestyle by completing a range of activities that we enjoy throughout the week and the children wrote and drew what they enjoy doing during the week.
Maths
Telling the time to quarter to and quarter past, addition and graphing
In our maths sessions we have continued learning to tell the time on both analogue and digital clocks to quarter to and quarter past. The students completed a sheet where only the small hand (hour) was included.
We demonstrated and discussed that you need to pay particular attention to which number the hour hand is closer to in order to work out if it is a quarter to or quarter past time. They then drew the minute hand either to the 3 for a quarter past or 9 to a quarter to time. The students had fun during our Daily 3 maths sessions where they got to play time games with someone to reinforce their understanding.
We have started looking at addition and will be exploring different strategies such as count on, the jump and split strategy.
The Year 2 students will be exploring different types of graphs and interpreting information from these. We created a class graph of our favourite sport.
Literacy
The Year 2 students have been learning about adjectives and how they make our writing more vivid and detailed. The children created a portrait of themselves by drawing their picture and writing adjectives around it to describe themselves. We were very pleased by the effort and detail the children put into this activity.
Mother's Day
We hope you enjoyed the Mother's Day craft the children completed for you and got spoilt on your special day.
