Year 2 News

From Sally, Year 2 Teacher
Enjoying Year Two
How quickly time flies! We find ourselves halfway through Term 1 already. The last two weeks have been jam-packed full of learning.
In Reading and Writing, the students have been taking a closer look at the key elements of a narrative, such as plot, setting and characters, and have begun to apply their knowledge to develop their very own stories. We have been exploring the descriptive language that can enrich these stories, such as adjectives and adverbs and practised finding synonyms.
We have continued to enjoy our phonics program. This week we have focused on the long a sound as in sleigh and great, the long e sound as in belief, complete or please, and the short e sound as in bread.
In Numeracy, students have enjoyed making, renaming and representing one, two and three digit numbers in our Place Value unit. We have looked at finding patterns to help us count and begun to estimate using a number line.
Our kitchen garden program proved a success this week as the students collected the snails from the garden beds and tidied to ensure the space was safe for all.
