NMPS New and Returning Staff

Welcome New Staff

Sam Howard, Performing Arts

Hello North Melbourne Community! I’m Sam, a new Performing Arts teacher at the Molesworth Street Campus, and I’m thrilled to be part of this vibrant school! Over the past six years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching and presenting study skills in schools across Australia, and now I’m excited to bring my passion for the arts to North Melbourne Primary.  When I’m not in the classroom, you’ll find me performing, rolling dice in a game of Dungeons & Dragons, getting lost in a great book, or watching films and TV. I’m also a die-hard supporter of Liverpool FC and the Melbourne Demons.  Oh, and I’m a bit of a foodie, always on the hunt for the next delicious bite. I can’t wait to meet you all and share the magic of Performing Arts together.

Jina Oh, 5C

Hi, I'm Jina! I'm excited to join NMPS as a new Year 5 teacher. I’ve lived in a few different countries before moving to Melbourne four years ago, and since then, I’ve had the chance to teach at a variety of schools as a CRT. Now, I’m thrilled to have a classroom of my own. Everyone at NMPS has already been so welcoming, and I’m looking forward to becoming part of the community. I love traveling, swimming, snowboarding, camping, and exploring Melbourne’s amazing food scene. If you see me around, feel free to say hi—I’d love to meet you!

Bill Portelli, 1E

Thank you all for making me feel so welcome during the first few weeks of 2025. For those who I have not yet met, I am teaching the lovely Year 1E class. Having just moved into the local area, I am already sure that I have made the right decision. Prior to 2025, I have taught in Bentleigh East, the United Kingdom and Perth.

Outside of school, I like to keep an eye across most sports. I also coach men's soccer and enjoy keeping fit (somewhat).

I am excited to get to know you all. If you want to say hello or unpack the weekend's footy, please do so!

Harrison Arnold, 6B

Hello NMPS, my name is Harrison and I am the 6B teacher for 2025. This will be my first year teaching at NMPS and I cannot wait!

Originally I'm from the country (sort of...Albury) but have grown to love being a city slicker in Melbourne. Since moving here I’ve been teaching for four years down in Port Melbourne and even longer over in London before the Covid lockdowns; during this time I’ve spent the majority as either a year 5 or 6 teacher.

A few things about me, I love spending time outdoors, whether it’s camping, hiking or running marathons, I'm always look for a new challenge. When I’m not out galivanting outside, you’ll find me catching up with friends, flipping through vinyl or playing my guitar.

Harriet McKay, 6D

Hi, everyone! My name is Harriet, and I’m so excited to be one of the Year 6 teacher this year. This is my first year at this school, but before becoming a teacher, I worked in lots of different jobs, from being a PR assistant to working in community education centres! I love learning new things, and I can’t wait to share that excitement with all of you. We’re going to have an amazing year filled with curiosity, creativity, and lots of learning."

Returning Staff

Matilda Bailey, 5A

Hi there! I’m Matilda B and I am very excited to be back at NMPS with Year 5 this year. I have been teaching here since 2021, but took some time off last year to travel and have some adventures. When I’m not at school, you can find me reading, cooking for friends, listening to podcasts, collaging, and getting out of town. Looking forward to seeing you around NMPS!

Carmel McNally, 3E

Hi everyone! I’m so excited to be back at the wonderful North Melbourne Primary school community after 10 years away.  When I’m not in the classroom, I love being a mum and spending time with my family and friends at the beach, in nature and finding some quiet space. Those trips always recharge me and inspire new ideas to bring back to school. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new ones. It’s great to be back!
