Everyday Signs – Building Conversations

We’re having a blast this term, and it’s been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and progress in our Auslan classrooms! Over the past two weeks, we’ve focused on two important topics: Everyday Signs and Family.

Communication starts with the basics! We’ve been learning how to use simple, everyday signs to communicate with each other in practical ways. Students have been working on signing basic sentences, which is an essential skill for everyday interactions in Auslan.

To bring this learning to life, we’ve used role-playing activities, helping students build confidence in using Auslan in real-world scenarios. These simple yet powerful signs lay the foundation for fluency, making it easier for students to express themselves and connect with others.

Family – Who’s in Your Family?

Our second focus has been on family signs, an important part of everyday conversation. Through games and interactive activities, students have been learning how to describe their own families using Auslan.

Understanding and using family-related signs allows students to talk about the people in their lives, strengthening their ability to hold meaningful conversations. Plus, it’s been great fun seeing everyone practice these signs through engaging activities and discussions!

We’re so proud of our students for their enthusiasm and effort, and we can’t wait to dive into more exciting topics in the weeks ahead. Keep practicing at home, and as always, thank you for supporting Auslan in our school community!
