Ash Wednesday and the Start of Lent
Yesterday, we began the season of Lent with Ash Wednesday. This is a special time for our school community to reflect and renew our faith in Jesus, as we prepare for Easter. Lent is a 40-day period where we focus on prayer, fasting, and giving. The ashes we received on our foreheads, made from last year's Palm Sunday branches, remind us of humility and the importance of turning to God.
Project Compassion
During Lent, our school participates in Project Compassion, supporting Caritas Australia's vital work. Our Justice and Service Leaders will be distributing Project Compassion boxes to each family. The theme Caritas has chosen this year, Unite Against Poverty, links to this passage from the Book of Matthew, where Jesus said: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.”
Archbishop Comensoli elaborated on the theme in his introduction, highlighting that Project Compassion ‘asks us to think of others and reach out in love and acceptance, recognising that every single person has dignity, value and worth. It is significant that we come together to do this in this year of Jubilee 2025, when we celebrate our call to be pilgrims of hope.
The Project Compassion boxes are to be returned at the start of Term 3.
