Principal's Message

At Dan's farewell Liturgy on Friday, I reflected on Dan's positive impact at SMDP.

Below is a copy of what was said.

It is with both gratitude and sadness that we bid farewell to an extraordinary leader, mentor, and friend—our beloved principal, Dan. Over the past eight years, Dan has been the heart of St. Martin De Porres, shaping not just the school, but the lives of countless students, families, and staff members. His unwavering commitment to fostering a love of learning and a sense of belonging has left a profound and lasting impact on our community.

From the beginning, Dan has made it his mission to personally know every student, ensuring that each child feels seen, valued, and excited to come to school. His accessibility and warmth have extended beyond the classroom, reaching families and creating an environment where everyone feels welcomed and supported. More than just a principal, Dan has been a guiding force, inspiring both students and educators to strive for excellence.

Under Dan’s leadership, St. Martin De Porres has flourished. His mantra, “Try your best and a little bit more,” has set a standard of high expectations and achievement. Through his dedication, he has cultivated an inclusive and nurturing school culture—one where every student is encouraged to exceed their potential and embrace lifelong learning.

Dan’s impact on student learning has been remarkable, with continuous growth in academic outcomes. His leadership has empowered teachers with innovative teaching strategies and professional development opportunities, ensuring that our students receive the highest quality education. By fostering collaboration among educators, he has strengthened the school's commitment to continuous improvement and excellence.

Beyond his role as principal, Dan has been a mentor to emerging leaders, coaching new principals and guiding educators toward success. His work with collaborative networks such as the Schools Improving Schools collective and the Visible Learning initiative has helped elevate St. Martin De Porres within the wider educational community. His dedication to mentorship and professional growth will leave a lasting influence on both our school and beyond.

Dan has also championed initiatives that promote student well-being, including Respectful Relationships, Mental Health in Primary Schools, and Peaceful Kids. These programs have enriched our students’ social and emotional learning, fostering a culture of respect, resilience, and inclusion.

His ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with parents, staff, and the broader community has been instrumental in creating a school culture rooted in trust and partnership. Under his leadership, St. Martin De Porres has strengthened its connection with the Holy Trinity Parish Community, ensuring a faith-filled and supportive learning environment for our students.

Dan’s dedication extends beyond academics and well-being—his vision has also transformed the school’s facilities. Thanks to his tireless efforts, our students now enjoy modern, well-equipped classrooms and inviting outdoor spaces. His legacy is not only felt in the relationships he has built but also in the beautiful learning environment he leaves behind.

As we say goodbye, we do so with immense appreciation. Dan’s leadership, kindness, and unwavering commitment to excellence have left an indelible mark on our school. Though he will be deeply missed, we know that his passion for education and community will continue to shine wherever his next journey takes him. Personally, I cannot wait to bring all that I have learned to the role and follow in Dan's inspiring footsteps to lead St. Martin De Porres.

St Martin de Porres Primary School is committed to creating an environment where the safety, well-being, and participation of all children within our care is paramount.

ATTENTION PLEASE - Traffic Management at SMDP

As we continue to grow as a school, students safety continues to be paramount.

Our school is different from many other schools as so many of our students arrive and leave each day by car. Very few students walk or ride home.

Therefore, it is vital to follow our traffic management rules, especially at pick up time, to keep our students safe.

Our staff are not employed to be traffic wardens. It is our responsibility, as adults, to follow our safety rules and model good behaviour to our students.
