Celebrations of Learning and Community

Science Specialties

In Science, we have had some exciting and engaging practical experiments taking place. Students from 8C completed a heart dissection practical and our Year 12 Chemistry class recently conducted their extended investigation experiments on galvanic cells. The students designed their own investigation to investigate what factors affect voltages in galvanic cells. This investigation goes over 2 weeks of lessons and is presented as a final Scientific poster.

Year 1 Incursion

On Thursday 20th March, we had a visit from the Year 1 students for an incursion as part of their unit on belonging and feeling connected to their school community.  The students had a wonderful time exploring many of the Secondary Years classrooms and the Secondary Years students enjoyed hosting them!

Harmony Day

Year 11 and 12 student leaders planned and implemented Harmony Day cultural activities in the Primary Years for our Prep to Year 5 students. Below is a reflection from current Year 12 student, Jennifer.

I was part of a three day leadership program that was called the NEA Senior Student Leadership program, where we were given the opportunity to bring forward an initiative to benefit our school. With the rest of the leaders in the group including Tania, Sajani, Marita, Ajitesh, Stephin, Ty, Gurteg, we collectively came up with the idea to improve Harmony Day at our school by incorporating a Cultural Day. To promote diversity and foster inclusivity in the Hazel Glen community, we thought this idea would be a great addition to our school! We have been working consistently over the past year for this big event to occur, alongside having assistance from other students and our teachers.

Although the rain prevented our initial plans, we were all glad to see everyone in their amazing attire, mismatched socks and their splashes of orange. It was a beautiful opportunity for parents to join in, along with everyone showing off their smiling faces. As a group, we couldn’t have been happier with the outcome and hope this will continue on for future years.

SPORTS UPDATE

As we wrap up an action-packed term of sport at Hazel Glen College, we celebrate the incredible achievements, teamwork, and sportsmanship displayed by our students.

Athletics Carnival

Our annual Athletics Carnival was a fantastic day filled with energy, enthusiasm, and outstanding performances across the track and field events. Students showcased their speed, strength, and determination, with many personal bests achieved. The House spirit was on full display as students cheered each other on, making it a memorable event for all involved. A huge thank you to the staff and student leaders who helped make the day run smoothly. Congratulations to those students who have qualified for the next stage of the competition!
